Portuguese Star Alliance member TAP is selling cheap business class tickets to Toronto from Spain, Ireland, and Portugal. The nonstop from Lisbon are the cheapest tickets at €1,297, but business class feeders from Barcelona, Dublin, Madrid or Porto add just €100 or less to the tickets.

Flights are available until April 2024 from Portugal and Ireland. You can find much broader availability for departures from Spain.

You can fly for less than €1,400 from the following cities:

Our availability calendar highlights all possible flight dates at the lowest price for trips up to 28 days. It will forward you to TAP with your selected flight dates. You can also check what OTAs have to offer, as they sell these tickets up to €50 cheaper.

The long-haul flight is always operated on an Airbus A321LR from Lisbon. These planes feature a modern business class design with lie-flat-seats in an alternating 2-2 and 1-1 pattern. Our editor recently reviewed TAP’s premium cabin on this airplane and was pleasantly surprised by the experience. Should you start your trip in Italy or Ireland, you’ll usually fly to Lisbon on an Airbus A320-family aircraft.

According to the fare rules, these tickets are on sale until January 18, 2024. There are two travel periods: The first travel period ends on April 28, 2024. On this day, all inbound travel has to arrive back in Europe.

For departures from Spain, there is a second travel period, beginning in September 2024 with excellent availability.

Google Flights gives you conclusive information about flight dates and times. While online travel agencies on Skyscanner provide you with the cheapest tickets, it’s usually better to purchase premium tickets directly from the airline. Booking on TAP’s website comes with an added bonus: You can add a stopover of up to five days in Lisbon without increasing the ticket price.

Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?

More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend booking with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:

Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airline has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.

If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward information like flight changes instead of receiving them directly from the airline. In many cases, you may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem-solving.

This especially applies to premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.

Baggage and Other Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are industry standard by now. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.

This also applies to other things like food services, insurances or priority treatment. In almost all cases, you pay less for additional amenities when booking on the airlines’ website.
