Review: New Year’s Eve at the Hilton Warsaw, incl. Lounge Access Thanks to Honors Gold

We spent New Year’s Eve 2019/20 (and thus before Corona) at the Hilton Warsaw Hotel & Convention Center – the flagship Hilton in Poland.

The stay was part of a small tour of Eastern Europe from Budapest via Warsaw to Kraków. We stayed at the Hilton Warsaw for two nights in total. As a Hilton Honors Gold member, we were able to extensively test the hotel, including the gold benefits.

Info

As usual at Travel-Dealz, we paid for our stay out of pocket and did not inform the hotel that we would write a review. If you book a Hilton hotel via our links, we will receive a commission. That’s all.

Check in

We arrived at the hotel from Budapest around 11:00 and received our two booked rooms without any problems. The status benefits were briefly explained to us: lounge access, breakfast in the restaurant, etc. and then we went to the 24th and 22nd floor. A few days before the stay, we had already received an overview by email:

Hint

Take a taxi / Uber from the airport. That only cost us PLN 17 (~€4) and you can be in the hotel in 20 minutes.

Location

The Hilton Warsaw is located in the business district of Warsaw and therefore not very central. You can walk to the main train station and Warsaw’s landmark, the Palace of Science and Culture, in around 20 minutes, and in 30-40 minutes you can also be in the rebuilt old town. There are certainly many hotels in Warsaw that are much better located, but the wellness area and the well-known good benefits of the Hilton Honors Gold status were also important to us.

We only walked into the city center once and then always took an Uber for PLN 12 (~€3) – PLN 22 (~€5).

There are a few restaurants and cafés in the area. At the weekend and in the evenings, however, the area looks very deserted.

Room

The rooms on the executive floors on floors 18-24 offer fantastic views of Warsaw. There are certainly more beautiful skylines in the world, but living this high always has its charm. The wide, almost floor-to-ceiling window front is also a real eye-catcher.

So good that we even celebrated the New Year in our room.

Our room was spacious. In addition to a desk, two armchairs with a table and the bed, there is also a luggage rack, which was unfortunately too small for our suitcase.

A kettle for coffee and tea is available in the room. Unfortunately, there was only soluble coffee powder and no machine. The prices in the minibar were very high for Polish standards. Thanks to the lounge access, we were able to get enough drinks there.

The spacious bathroom has a bathtub and a separate shower. There was a lot of space to place your toiletries around the sink, which is often missing in hotels. Merely the placement of the toilet paper holder was a bit inconvenient.

It is also nice that there’s a note telling you that you can use some sockets to charge your devices, even if the rest of the power in the room is switched off when you leave:

Lounge

The fact that you get access to the executive lounge with the Hilton Honors Gold status is (unfortunately) not standard in every hotel. However, the Hilton Warsaw is very generous here and states it as an additional benefit in their brochure. Although access is only available “subject to availability”, I think that it is very unlikely that you will not receive an upgrade with so many executive floor rooms.

The lounge is (unfortunately, as the view from one of the upper floors would be nicer) on the first floor behind the reception. The key card gives you access from 6:00 to 22:00. Free drinks (coffee, tea, water, juices, soft drinks) and some small snacks (chips, biscuits, fruit) are available there all day long.

On the first floor, there is a buffet and some seats. In addition, you can go to the 2nd floor via an internal staircase and make yourself comfortable there. Above all, it is much quieter there in the evening during the evening cocktails.

Breakfast is served in the morning, which we preferred to eat in the restaurant. Between 18:00 and 20:00, alcoholic beverages (beer, wine, sparkling wine, hard liquor) and an evening spread are also available. The selection of hot and cold dishes was really good. On our two days, there was salad, fresh vegetables, bread, soup, and two warm dishes. The warm dishes were always changed as soon as they were empty. So there were spring rolls, shrimp, meat in sauce, noodles, goulash … You could replace dinner with the lounge’s food, which we gladly did, at least on the first day.

Punctually, at 20:00 the fridge is (unfortunately) locked for the alcoholic drinks, and you have to switch to the bar or restaurant if you want to keep on drinking alcohol. Putting 1-2 bottles on the table and drinking until 22:00 wasn’t a problem either.

Breakfast

Thanks to the Hilton Gold status, breakfast for two in the room is always included. It is served buffet-style in the Meza restaurant.

The offer was very generous. There was freshly squeezed orange and carrot juice, an omelet station (but only on one day, it was not set up on New Year’s Eve), and various hot and cold dishes. Interestingly enough, I couldn’t find any jam.

The atmosphere at breakfast was also right. Due to the carpeting and the spacious room, the volume was kept within limits, no cutlery was sorted in the guest area and the waiters always quickly cleared away used plates. So fast that once the empty plate was taken away from me when I was about to put the last bite in my mouth. Perhaps that was a little too attentive, but given the age of the waiter, it could also have been his first day.

Gym & Spa

One of the main reasons for me to choose the Hilton Warsaw was the spacious gym and spa area. I was already a guest at this hotel a few years ago, and the gym and spa got stuck in my memory back then.

The hotel now shares the area with the fitness chain Holmes Place. But that didn’t damage the quality, on the contrary. As a hotel guest, you can use the entire facility, including the gym, free of charge. At the entrance, you only have to show your room card, and you will be given a towel + locker key if necessary. Bathrobes and slippers are available in the hotel room.

The gym and spa area consists of a 25-meter swimming pool, divided into four lanes. There are also two large whirlpools, a sauna, and a steam bath. You can relax and sit out a rainy day (which we unfortunately had).

Conclusion

We had two very pleasant nights at the Hilton Warsaw. The hotel is really excellent value for money by European standards. Especially if you have a Hilton Honors Gold status. I would choose the Hilton again at any time. Only the location can put you off.

Thanks for the review but do notice that in the passing 2 years, the hotel has gone downhill (most probably due to Covid), so this review is no longer relevant, imho.

I stayed at this hotel again in October 2020 (during the pandemic) and the hotel was still at that high standard. Merely the lounge was closed, but you still got a small meal at the bar for free, as well as drinks, so I really can’t complain. I would definitely return to this hotel.
