Premier Qualifying Points (PQP) Calculator – United MileagePlus

United Boeing 777 AMS

In the last major program change, United Airlines‘ frequent flyer program – MileagePlus – replaced tier miles with PQP (Premier Qualifying Points). For flights operated or issued by United, these tier points are awarded based on revenue. Otherwise, however, the credit is based on distance and certain other criteria that quickly become confusing. Therefore, we have developed a calculator for you that calculates the exact number of PQP to be expected:

Info

We assume no liability for the calculation! The result is to be seen as a guide and must always be recalculated manually for a final decision.

The Tier Points Calculator is currently in its beta stage. If you discover an error, please email us your routing to Ditmar@Travel-Dealz.eu.

Please use the following format for the input into the calculator:

Operating airline: booking class: flight segment(s)
  • Operating airline: IATA code of the operating airline, e.g. UA for United Airlines
  • Booking class: booking class of the flights, e.g. K
  • Flight segment(s): IATA codes of the served airports, separated by a hyphen. e.g. FRA-ZRH-HKG for a one-way flight and FRA-ZRH-HKG-ZRH-FRA for a return flight from Frankfurt to Hong Kong via Zurich.

Optionally, you can also specify the issuing airline and the fare (in US dollars):

Operating airline: Booking class: Flight segment(s): Issuing airline: Fare
  • Issuing airline: only important if the tickets were issued by United, as the calculation is then revenue-based. Otherwise, you can also omit this part.
  • Fare: Only relevant if the flights are United-issued or United-operated, as the calculation is then revenue-based. Otherwise, you can also omit this part. The price should be in US Dollars (excluding taxes & fees).

How PQP Are Calculated

As previously mentioned, PQP are calculated on a revenue basis for all flights operated or issued by United. So you’d get one PQP per US dollar fare (minus actual taxes & fees). There is no upper limit on these flights. You can also buy a ticket for $4,000 and get 4,000 PQP for it.

In all other cases, the number of PQPs is calculated based on the award miles, which in turn are based on the booking class and distance. The PQP then correspond to the number of award miles divided by 5 (for preferred partners) or 6 (for other partners).

Further information on the revenue-based calculation of status points can be found here:

However, there are additional limits for the maximum PQP that you can earn per flight. Depending on the airline and travel class, the limit is between 500 and 1,500 PQP per segment:
