Havana: €349 SkyTeam Flights from Amsterdam (€429 with Luggage)

SkyTeam members KLM & Air France are currently offering cheap tickets to Cuba in cooperation with COPA. With departure from Amsterdam, you get to fly to Havana for €349. Tickets with a longer travel time are sometimes even available for only €333. Availability is good between March and October 2022, excluding the month of August. 23 kg of luggage cost €80 extra.

Info

Vaccinated and recovered people can enter Cuba with a negative PCR test that is no older than 72 hours.

At KLM & Air France, all tickets can still be rebooked without a change fee, but you will unfortunately now have to pay the price difference. You can also exchange the flights for a non-refundable voucher, valid for 1 year. Unfortunately, the option to have the value of the voucher paid out to your bank account no longer exists since March 1st. You can read the rules here.

You can simply use our form and then be forwarded directly to KLM. These flights are available from March until October 2022 (excluding the month of August):

The cheapest route has KLM fly you in a Boeing 777 to Panama and then have COPA take you to your final destination, Havana. Alternatively, there are also flights with Air France in a Boeing 777 via Paris. Legroom is 79 cm on long-haul routes.

According to the fare rules, flights can be booked up until February 10, 2022 for the following travel periods:

  • March 2022 (+ €20)
  • April – May 2022
  • June – July 2022 (+ €20)
  • September – October 2022 (+ €20)

However, availability varies greatly depending on the travel period. The minimum stay requirement is 6 days or one night from Saturday to Sunday, and according to the fare rules, you can spend a maximum of 3 months at the destination.

You can find all available dates quickly and easily with the help of Google Flights (instructions). You should then book directly on KLM’s website.

Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?

More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend booking with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:

Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airline has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.

If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward information like flight changes instead of receiving them directly from the airline. In many cases, you may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem-solving.

This especially applies to premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.

Baggage and Other Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are industry standard by now. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.

This also applies to other things like food services, insurances or priority treatment. In almost all cases, you pay less for additional amenities when booking on the airlines’ website.

Information & Tips for Havana

Havana is the largest city and capital of Cuba with around 2 million inhabitants and a variety of touristic activities and attractions. Havana is also a good starting point to explore the rest of the country.

The city is connected by air to the Americas (mainly USA and Canada but also Central and South America) and partly also to the European continent. Cheap flights to Havana and to Cuba in general are often available thanks to the large number of charter airlines serving the country. It is also possible to get great deals on scheduled airlines (Iberia, Air France, Air Europe, etc…) for under €500 to Cuba. In addition, there are often good deals in business class.

The Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Havana is in the dry season between December and May. Little rain and warm temperatures provide good touristic conditions and are a welcome change from the otherwise rather humid temperatures in the Caribbean.

A taxi costs about €22-25. Airport transfers can also be arranged in advance, these also cost around €25. Alternatively you can take the bus for just €0.03, although this option is much more adventurous.
