XL Airways Announced Suspension of Ticket Sales

We have been promoting some great deals from Paris base carrier XL Airways in the past. But the times when the airline was able to offer cheap fares for flights to various international destinations, might be over.

As XL Airways announced on its website on September 19th, it stopped selling tickets due to “financial difficulties”. Now, this is not really news since the carrier has been struggling for quite some time already. And has been up for sale since December last year.

But the airline is also warning its passengers that some flights might have to be canceled. So there are already rumors about filing bankruptcy. As shown on our title picture, on September 20th, two of the airline’s aircraft where still airborne. On the other hand, not even the airline’s flight status check has been working when we tested it. So the end is yet to come.

It wouldn’t be the first European low-cost carrier that goes out of business. WOW Air, Aigle Azur or Air Berlin are three examples of carriers that couldn’t make it in the competitive market.

What to do if you Booked a Flight With XL Airways?

Right now, there’s not much you can do. If you’ve booked a flight, contact the airline for more information. In case XL Airways should really stop its business and files for bankruptcy, you’re out of luck.

In the past, we’ve seen that other airlines jump in to help out passengers that otherwise would have been stranded somewhere. But this is a voluntary act. For future trips your best chance is a chargeback procedure if you’ve paid for your flight by credit card.
