The last few weeks have brought us long-awaited announcements regarding travel to Asia. After Japan, South Korea is the latest to announce further ease to its travel requirements. Since April 1, vaccinated travellers no longer needed to quarantine once they followed the strict testing requirements. Before September 3, one needed to perform three COVID tests, which was reduced to 1 in early September.
However, according to Korea’s tourism organisation and media, that will be history as of October 1. All inbound travellers will be freed to perform a COVID test.
No test, no vaccination required
From early September, together with the announcement of dropping the pre-departure testing, the mandatory vaccination requirement was also dropped. Therefore passengers entering the country after Saturday, October 1 do not need to show vaccination certificates and won’t have to go through tests either.
However, in September 2021, the South Korean government introduced an electronic travel authorization system, called K-ETA (The website was down as of writing). It works like the American ESTA and the Canadian eTA. To enter the country without a visa, you’d need to register and pay ₩10,000 (~€7) in advance.
At the moment, we have plenty of available and attractive deals to Seoul:
