Another country has begun to issue electronic visas with the beginning of October 2019. Citizens of the European Union can now visit the Russian Federation through St.Petersburg, without applying for a costly and bureaucratically challenging Russian visa. Still, huge restrictions come with this permit like a maximum stay of eight days.
53 Countries are Eligible for Stays up to 8 Days
Citizens of the following 53 countries can apply for the electronic visa:
- Italy (+ Vatican)
- China (+Taiwan)
- Korea DPR
- San Marino
- Saudi Arabia
- North Macedonia
- Czech Republic
Citizens of these countries can spend up to 8 days in the St.Petersburg or Kaliningrad regions. They must meet further requirements:
- Apply for your visa online at least 4 days before arrival
- Apply for your visa online a maximum of 20 days before arrival
- Apply by using a passort valid for 6 months or more
E-Visas cannot be extended and are only valid for specific regions of the country.
In addition to St.Petersburg, similiar rules apply to electronic visas to Kaliningrad. While these visas are not suited for travelling over a longer time or extended regions, they still present a nice opportunity to get a glimpse of a culturally unique country. The fact that it is free of charge adds to its attractiveness.
