Canada to Open Borders for Fully Vaccinated Europeans On September 7, 2021

Vancouver Island Kanada

The Canadian government has just announced further steps to continuously lift restrictions in a press conference. Finally, the details regarding the opening of international borders are here! Apparently, international travelers who have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 will be permitted to enter Canada from September 7, 2021. Fully vaccinated Americans can even cross the border in August.

The last vaccine dose has to have been administered at least 14 days before arrival, as usual. Furthermore, the vaccine has to be one of the approved vaccines by Canada. Currently, these are:

  • Moderna Covid-19 vaccine
  • Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine
  • AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD Covid-19 vaccine
  • Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) Covid-19 vaccine

Additionally, you also need to present a negative PCR test before departure. The test upon arrival, however, will no longer be necessary for fully vaccinated travelers. Randomly selected travelers, however, will have to do a test on day 1.

Currently, there’s still a strict travel ban in place, except for Canadians and residents.

Nevertheless, this news should be taken with caution, as the Canadian government also stated, that the borders will only be opened for Europeans if the Covid-19 situation continues to develop in a positive way. This could, for instance, not be the case once borders are opened for Americans in August.
