Skyteam member KLM offers some attractive business class fares its home base in Amsterdam, offering nonstop services to American West Coast destinations like Los Angeles and Vancouver as low as €1,298. These flights are available in late 2020 and early 2021. Of course, it is still a bit of a gamble to buy these tickets, as we cannot tell when international travel will be possible again. You might want to check KLM’s rebooking policy before buying a premium ticket.

You can find nonstop flights to the following US and Canadian West Coast destinations:

Most Canadian and US nonstop destinations like New York and Miami are available at the same price.

Flights to Portland are operated by Delta Air Lines, featuring their newly implemented Delta One cabin. You can also fly Air France with a stop in Paris to most of these destinations.

The fare rules say these fares remain online until May 31, 2020. They may run out of availability earlier. A minimum stay of at least one night from Saturday to Sundays applies. The maximum stay is three months. Further, these fares seem to be exclusively available for Tuesday and Wednesday departures. They show scattered availability from August 2020 through February 2021.

You can fire up Google Flights (instructions) to check availabilities and find suiting flight dates. These fares are available on KLM.com, where we strongly recommend booking them.

Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?

More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend to book with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:

  1. Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airlines has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.

If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward you information like flight changes instead receiving them directly from the airline. You may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem solving.

This especially applies for premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.
  2. Baggage Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are more and more common. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.

KLM’s World Business Class

According to a number of reviews, KLM’s Business Class is a middle-of-the-pack product. It is praised for seat length and quality of service. On the other hand, a major point of complaint is food quality, seat width and lack of storage, especially in their older layouts. However, their new Boeing 787 premium cabin (available to New York and Toronto) receives more praise. You can find a more detailed review about it here and one about the slightly older 777 Business Class here.

Information & Tips for USA

The USA offers many sights, natural wonders and cultural significance. Thanks to numerous airlines offering flights across the Atlantic, it is always pretty inexpensive to get there. Alternatively, you can also cross the Atlantic by boat.

Immigration, ESTA & Visa Requirements

The USA has one of the strictest entry regulations in the world. Most EU citizens citizens, among others, are lucky to be able to participate in the so-called Visa Waiver Program. If you get an electronic entry permit (ESTA)  for about 12€, you don’t need a visa for entry.

Best Time to Visit

Due to its sheer size, the perfect time to visit the USA varies greatly from region to region. In winter, Florida is very popular due to the mild temperatures. In the summer the West and East Coasts are flooded by tourists which drives up the prices for hotels and flights and during the Indian Summer in late autumn New England is a very popular destination. The hurricane season between July and September can be dangerous in the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico. Florida and the southern states are regularly struck by these tropical storms. Blizzards occur from the East Coast to the Midwest during the winter months and regularly put air traffic and public life on hold.

Currency

The US dollar is widely used throughout the world and accepted as a currency in most tourist hotspots worldwide. That being said, carrying cash isn’t necessary in the US, all you need is a credit card! These are very common in the USA and are accepted pretty much everywhere without any issues. If you already have a credit card in your wallet, you should make sure that it does not charge a foreign currency fee if possible. Carrying a few dollars in cash doesn’t hurt though. You might need cash e.g. for the bus ticket if you want to buy it directly from the driver. Most of the time you even have to give exact change.

Information & Tips for Canada

The North American country of Canada is the second largest country in the world in terms of surface area. In Canada, English and French are the official languages. Tourists visit Canada because of its many natural attractions and large cities, and the flight prices vary between the east and west coasts. Flights to the east coast e.g. to Toronto or Montreal regularly cost less than 400€. For flights to the west coast, e.g. to Vancouver or Calgary, prices are closer to 400€ – 600€. Other destinations are mostly only reachable with an additional domestic flight. Just like in the USA, most airlines now only offer cheap fares that do not include checked baggage. For checked baggage you should budget an additional 50€ per direction.

Best Time to Travel

Canada is a huge country with many varying climate conditions, but it is safe to say that the winters (November to March) are very cold and snowy in most regions. Summers are relatively mild and partly rainy.

Immigration & Visa Requirements

Most EU citizens do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 6 months. However, an electronic travel waiver (eTA) must be applied for, similar to the ESTA required for entry into the USA. This costs about 5€ and is valid for up to 5 years.

Currency

Canada’s national currency is the Canadian Dollar (CAD). One euro is approximately $1.50 CAD. Many credit cards may charge a foreign currency fee of up to 2% to pay in CAD.

Transfer from Canada to the USA

Canada is located north of the USA and is the only other country apart from Mexico that shares a border with it (2 borders, actually: Alaska borders Canada in the southeast!) At many airports in Canada US immigration is already done before departure, so you arrive in the USA as a “domestic” passenger in the domestic terminal which can potentially save you lots of time since you do not have to stand in line at customs upon arriving. By land the same entry formalities take place as at the airport or by train at the station in Canada. Most EU citizens don’t need a visa and can instead make use of the digital ESTA procedure.

Radisson Hotels: Up to 25% Discount on Hotel Stays Worldwide https://travel-dealz.eu/deal/radisson-sale/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=rss-feed https://travel-dealz.eu/deal/radisson-sale/#respond Thu, 28 May 2020 08:39:13 +0000 https://travel-dealz.eu/?post_type=deal&p=9916

Radisson is currently running a promotion: You can receive up to 25% discount on stays in numerous hotels all across the globe. All offers can be cancelled for free up to seven days before the first night of your stay. This sale ends on July 15, 2020. The offer applies to all stays between June 10 and August 31, 2020.

Warning

Most of the countries this offer covers have imposed heavy travel restrictions to slow the spread of Covid-19. It is a pretty long shot to plan for international travel this summer. This offer may be put to the best use if you plan travel in your home country.

radisson dream deals offer

You can select the hotel you wish to stay in by following the link above. Discounts and travel periods vary depending on the region you want to travel:

  • In the United States, Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean you can save up to 15%, on stays between May 27 and August 31, 2020.
  • In Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific you can save up to 20% on stays between June 10 and August 31, 2020.

The offer is valid for nights at Radisson Collection, Radisson Blu, Radisson RED, Radisson, Park Inn by Radisson and Park Plaza hotels across Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Here’s a complete list of all participating hotels. You can save additional 5% by signing up to Radisson’s loyalty program, Radisson Rewards.

Country Inn Suites Orlando Dream Deal
Members of Radisson Rewards may receive additional discounts.

The booking period for this deal is from today through July 15, 2020. The stay period begins on May 27 (June 10 in some countries) and ends on August 31, 2020.

Bottom Line

Right now, outlooks on when travel will be possible again are not the best. While we wouldn’t recommend planning international (or in some cases even domestic) travel, we still want to inform you about offers like this. Radisson adding a free cancellation option to this kind of offer is new, but having to make a decision a full week before your stay isn’t really that generous. Especially because most hotel chains offer free same day cancellation. Some hotels may even require a full payment in advance. Even with a free cancellation option, this poses a serious risk in these troubled time for the travel industry.

Bangkok: Qatar Airways Flights From Various European Countries Starting at €440 (incl. Luggage) https://travel-dealz.eu/deal/qatar-bangkok/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=rss-feed https://travel-dealz.eu/deal/qatar-bangkok/#respond Wed, 27 May 2020 15:17:59 +0000 https://travel-dealz.eu/?post_type=deal&p=18313

Qatar Airways is undoubtedly one of the best airlines on earth, which makes this deal even sweeter. You can fly to Bangkok for only €440, including 30kg of luggage, on most dates from September well into 2021.

Info

Worried about booking flights due to the Coronavirus crisis? We totally get it, but Qatar Airways is one of the many airlines offering a very generous flexibility policy. You can read more about it here:

We found cheap flights from the following cities:

prg bkk 27 05
Good flight times as well

The specific aircraft that you’ll be flying on depends on the city of origin, as well as the flight times that you select, so it could basically be anything between an Airbus A350, Boeing 777, Boeing 787-Dreamliner, or an Airbus A320-family airplane. In any case, you’ll always be flying via Doha.

Search & Book

According to the fare rules, these tickets have to be purchased before August 31, 2020, but we’re honestly not sure that they’ll really stay available for that long. Your flight has to leave from Sunday to Wednesday, and you have to leave Bangkok from Monday to Friday. These flights are not available from December 15th to January 3rd. You also have to respect a minimum stay requirement of 7 days, as well as a maximum of 2 months.

You can check all available dates on Google Flights, and we then recommend booking these flights directly on Qatar’s website, as to reduce any risk of having problems due to the Coronavirus to a minimum.

Miles

The tickets are issued in booking class W, which for a Prague-Bangkok roundtrip should get you:

  • 4,750 on Finnair Plus
  • 2,950 on Malaysia Airlines Enrich

Miles&More only offers two options to keep your hard-earned miles after 36 months. You can only keep award miles, status miles are reset every January 1st.

If award miles are not redeemed for an award in the mileage account within 36 months of the event (start of the flight in question, start of the hotel stay, start of car rental etc.), they expire by the end of the next quarter, unless a longer deadline is announced through the Miles & More communication channels.

Miles & More Terms and conditions of participation 2.5 Expiry of award miles

1. A Frequent Flyer Status

Once you reach the Frequent Traveller status, the miles no longer expire. If you fail to requalify, the miles will get a new 36-month validity period and then expire at the end of the quarter. The same applies for Senator and HON members.

(Source)

Award miles do not expire for members who have reached Frequent Traveller, Senator or HON Circle Member status during the term of their status. Mileage expiry only becomes active again if the status is lost. Irrespective of whether they were earned before or during the term of that status, miles are valid from that point on for a further 36 months and then expire at the end of the quarter.

Miles & More FAQ

2. A Credit Card

The second option is to get a Miles&More credit card. Miles&More offers credit cards in 20 countries. The terms & conditions vary somewhat from country to country, so make sure to check your country’s terms.

The expiry stops the day your credit card is issued, which could take some days or weeks. Therefore, this is not a short-term solution that you can try out a couple of days before your miles expire.

If you cancel your credit card, the miles will be valid for another 3 months after the end of the quarter. Award miles that are over 36 months old at that point will expire.

3. Minors

JetFriends is the small Miles&More for kids/teenagers until their 18th birthday. The advantage here is that their award miles don’t expire.

By registering for the Miles & More program, you automatically become a member of the JetFriends program of Deutsche Lufthansa AG. Members can be between 2 and 18 years of age. Upon registration you will receive a Welcome Bonus of 500 award miles, and your award miles will be protected from expiration so long as you remain a JetFriends Member. Mileage expiration starts if you terminate your membership or once you reach the age of majority. If you have any questions about registration or need help, you can reach us via the contact form.

JetFriends

The normal 36 month-period starts at the 18th birthday.

When do my Miles Expire?

In your mileage account, you’ll see the expiration date below your account summary.

If you have a Miles&More status or credit card, which stops your miles from expiring, you’ll instead see this:

Your award miles are protected against expiry due to your mileage protection.

no expiry miles and more
This can be seen in your mileage account

Frequently Asked Questions

Miami: Starting at €212 from All Over Europe With TAP (Checked Bags Add €120) https://travel-dealz.eu/deal/tap-economy-miami/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=rss-feed https://travel-dealz.eu/deal/tap-economy-miami/#respond Wed, 27 May 2020 08:03:06 +0000 https://travel-dealz.eu/?post_type=deal&p=18297

Star Alliance member TAP Air Portugal has a great sale going for flights from different European airports to Miami, Florida. Prices go as low as a €212 roundtrip from Barcelona. If you consider taking your talents to South Beach, there is no more valuable way to do it, as TAP includes full board service in this price. Sadly, a checked bag comes with the hefty price tag of €120.

As a bonus, you can add a stopover in Lisbon up to five days on either the out- or inbound flight without raising the price.

You can buy tickets for less than €300 from the following airports:

TP BCN MIA 212
A great fare and short flight times make this an exceptional offer.

While TAP’s inner European Airbus A320 family is infamous for their narrow seat pitch, TAP’s long haul fleet of A330-900NEO aircraft is brand new and offers a good product. You can expect a 2-4-2 seating configuration on your transatlantic flights, which is standard for these planes.

Warning

We expect major shakeups in the airline industry over the following months. Some services might be cancelled, aircraft changed or downgraded. The schedule we describe was planned under different economic circumstances and may very well change.

Search & Book

The fare rules for these flights are wide open. There is no limit to the sales or travel period. A minimum or maximum stay does not apply, either. Availability is outstanding. Sometimes multiple daily flights are available at the lowest fare from January through April 2021.

You can find suiting flight dates with Google Flights (instructions). Afterwards, proceed to flytap.com to buy your flights. If you are looking for cheaper tickets, you can fire up our flight search – some online travel agencies sell these tickets more than €40 cheaper than the airline. However, this way you miss out on TAP’s generous stopover policy and risk increased fees when adding checked bags.

Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?

More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend to book with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:

  1. Better Customer Service

Adding a Stopover in Lisbon or Porto

If you book directly on TAP’s website, a pop-up window will automatically open. Its user-friendly interface asks you if and how long you’d like to stay in Portugal. This is by far the easiest way to make the most out of a trip with TAP to any destination of your choice. A stopover in Porto can be added the same way. The best thing – the price of your flight remains the same!

Just a few weeks after Latin American Avianca filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy, the continent’s largest airline LATAM has to follow its footsteps. The good news is that the airline will resume operations during this procedure.

Similar to Avianca, the LATAM Airline Group is a Holding with numerous subsidiaries in different South American countries. The branches in Chile, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador and the United States of America declared bankruptcy. On the other hand, LATAM Brazil (formerly TAM), Argentina and Paraguay are not affected by this.

The holding intends to uphold existing bookings, vouchers and LATAM Pass miles. Sadly, as a consequence of this development, customers who are waiting for refunds due to cancelled flights may be out of luck. In past airline insolvencies, a chargeback has emerged as the best option to get your money back nonetheless. LATAM itself decided to offer vouchers instead.

You can find further information on LATAMreorganizacion.com. The airline has set up this website especially for this occasion.

Concerning LATAM

LATAM came to existence in 2012 after a merger of Chilean LAN Airlines and Brazilian TAM Linhas Aéreas. Both companies remain legally separated, but are publicly using the LATAM brand. The bankruptcy mainly affects subsidiaries of LAN Airlines.

In September 2019 Delta Air Lines announced that it acquired a 20% stake in LATAM Airlines, worth nearly 2 billion $. As a result, LATAM left Oneworld Alliance on May 1, 2020. The airline is currently not a member of any major airline alliance, but is still affiliated with former Oneworld partners like British Airways.

Chapter 11

Chapter 11 bankruptcy is nothing new to international airlines, as many have gone this way before in the last 20 years. Especially in the aftermath of the September 11 terror attacks. American law allows airlines to resume operations while being protected from debtors. Any company with a branch in the USA can use its advantages. Because of this, it has become popular among international airlines to restructure while retaining close to normal operations under Chapter 11 rules.

New York: €1,340 Nonstop in Delta’s Business Class From Dublin https://travel-dealz.eu/deal/delta-dublin-new-york-business/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=rss-feed https://travel-dealz.eu/deal/delta-dublin-new-york-business/#respond Mon, 25 May 2020 14:26:20 +0000 https://travel-dealz.eu/?post_type=deal&p=18263

You can currently buy business class tickets for a Dublin – New York nonstop roundtrip at only €1,340 thanks to Delta and its close SkyTeam partners KLM and Air France. This price is available for trips during the summer and Christmas holidays.

If you are interested in Star Alliance flights, United sells business class seats on its nonstop service from Dublin to Newark at €1,428.

DL DUB JFK C 1340
Sold by KLM, but operated by Delta Air Lines.

The flights are operated by Delta on an Airbus A330. You don’t, however, necessarily have to fly nonstop. You can also add a layover – but unless you are looking to earn some extra miles, the nonstop flight definitively seems to be the better option.

Search & Book

According to the fare rules, the discounted nonstop fares are sold until May 31, 2020. You have to stay one night from Saturday to Sunday in the USA to get the lowest price. Availability is fairly good up to February 2021.

You can find available dates on Google Flights and then book directly on the airline’s website, or save some money by booking with an online travel agency through our Travel-Dealz flight search. To save some time, use our availability calendar that shows all availabilities for the lowest fare for trips up to two weeks:

Nonstop flights from Dublin to the USA are especially attractive because you can benefit US border preclearence:

Mexico City: €377 Nonstop from Barcelona (Checked Bags Add €120) https://travel-dealz.eu/deal/barcelona-mexico-nonstop/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=rss-feed https://travel-dealz.eu/deal/barcelona-mexico-nonstop/#respond Mon, 25 May 2020 10:37:57 +0000 https://travel-dealz.eu/?p=18250

SkyTeam member Aeromexico is promoting its nonstop service from Barcelona to Mexico City. While their business class prices have been lowered weeks ago, you can now buy economy class seats as cheap as €377 for a transatlantic round trip. While this fare comes with full board service and a rather generous 81 cm seat pitch, a checked bag up to 23 kg increases the price by €60 per flight on Aeromexico’s website.

Info

Currently, worldwide travel restrictions apply to slow the spread of Covid-19. Please inform yourself if it is possible to travel to Mexico and which requirements apply. Alternatively, select a flight date in late 2020 or even 2021.

AM BCN MEX 377
Attractive flight times and a great fare for a long journey.

Aeromexico deploys its modern Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners on flights between Spain and Mexico City. In economy class, these planes feature a 3-3-3 seating configuration with seat back monitors for your personal entertainment.

Warning

We expect major shakeups in the airline industry over the following months. Some services might be cancelled, aircraft changed or downgraded. The schedule we describe was planned under different economic circumstances and may very well change.

Search & Book

According to the fare rules, this fare will hang around until June 1, 2020. It is valid for flights between June 1, 2020, and March 19, 2021. On this date, all travel has to be completed. A minimum stay of three days applies as well as a maximum stay of three months. Availability is fairly good during the entire travel period.

While online travel agencies sell the cheapest tickets, you may consider booking directly at the airline for approx. €25 more. This way, you circumvent an additional insolvency risk during these uncertain times for the travel industry. Google Flights will show you when prices at the lowest fare are available (instructions). Our flight search tells you who sells them.

Mileage

Aeromexico issues these tickets in booking class V. This is a discounted economy booking class. Only 25% – 50% of your travel distance will be credited with most Skyteam frequent flyer programs:

  • 8,830 on Saudia Alfursan
  • 5,890 on China Airlines Dynasty Flyer
  • 5,890 on Garuda Indonesia GarudaMiles
  • 5,890 on Avianca LifeMiles
  • 5,890 on Czech Airlines OK Plus
  • 5,890 on Vietnam Golden Lotus Plus
  • 5,890 on Aerolineas Argentinas Plus
  • 4,740 on China Eastern Eastern Miles
  • 4,740 on Aeromexico Club Premier
  • 2,940 on Delta SkyMiles
  • 2,940 on FlyingBlue
  • 2,940 on Xiamen Airlines Egret Club
  • 2,940 on MEA Cedar Miles
  • 2,940 on Copa ConnectMiles
  • 2,940 on GOL Aéreos Smiles
  • 2,940 on Alitalia MileMiglia

Information & Tips for Mexico

Mayan pyramids, dreamy beaches and tacos – Mexico is an incredibly diverse country. If you want to experience the Spanish speaking country to its fullest, you should definitely stay somewhere other than the tourist hotspots and seaside resorts.

Best Time to Travel

The perfect travel time is from December to April, during this time it hardly rains and the temperatures are pleasant. Unsurprisingly, during the rainy season from May to October there is more rainfall. Beware of some extreme weather phenomenons that might be unknown to Europeans: Hurricane season lasts from June to November! Those who want to travel to typical holiday areas like Cancun and do not want to spend lots of money should travel in the off season. Areas with less touristic relevance such as Mexico City, on the other hand, are relatively constant throughout the year from a price perspective.

Currency, Credit Cards & Tipping

The official currency of the country is the Mexican Peso. 1 EUR equals about 22 MXN (as of March 2019). The acceptance of credit cards is comparable to or even slightly better than Germany. In almost all shops, even small kiosks, it is possible and quite normal to pay by card. The same applies to restaurants. For street vendors, street snack bars and the like, it is advisable to have a few pesos in cash with you. It is unusual to tip taxis or cab drivers. At a restaurant, 10-15 percent are normal, as long as the tip is not already listed on the bill as a line item. When paying by card, you can usually choose how much you want to tip at the card terminal before entering the pin. Housekeeping at a hotel should usually be tipped 20-40 Pesos per day, small favors have a going tip rate of 5 Pesos.

Immigration & Visa Requirements

Most EU citizens do not need a visa to enter Mexico. All you need to do is fill out the tourist card that is handed out onboard the plane. For touristic and business purposes, a visa-free stay of 180 days is possible.

Information & Tips for Mexico City

3 Tips for Mexico City

Mexico City is not quite as touristic as, for example, the seaside resort city and party destination Cancun. This means that hardly anybody speaks English, but you also don’t have to be afraid of being ripped off because you look like a tourist. My 3 tips for Mexico City:

  1. Torre Latinoamericana: The office tower – which looks a bit ugly from the outside – offers a fantastic view over the city, especially at dusk. The ticket is valid for several visits over the course of a whole day and costs 110 Pesos (= 4,50€).
  2. Chapultepec Park: There is a free zoo in Chapultepec Park. Even though admission is free, you can admire a total of 252 different animal species.
  3. Teotihuacán: A little outside of town are the impressive pyramids of Teotihuacán. I recommend that you get there early, otherwise you’ll have to wait in line for a long time. I came by public bus (not through an organized tour), I found the instructions on how to do that in this blog. I would also recommend checking out the cave restaurant there!

For getting around Mexico City I recommend using Uber. The countless taco stands are also great and extremely cheap. However, make sure that the meat is adequately cooled. Unfortunately, you often see that raw meat is lying somewhere in the blazing sun.

How To Credit Miles Retroactively https://travel-dealz.eu/blog/crediting-miles-retroactively/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=rss-feed https://travel-dealz.eu/blog/crediting-miles-retroactively/#respond Sat, 23 May 2020 15:20:49 +0000 https://travel-dealz.eu/?p=18219

Who doesn’t know this situation? You’ve added your frequent flyer number to your booking but still haven’t gotten your miles. Or you even forgot to add the number. Both things are not a problem, as all frequent flyer programs allow crediting miles retroactively.

Depending on the program, you can credit the miles up to 12 months after the flight. Most programs, however, only allow this up to 6 months.

The requirements differ quite a bit. If you’ve flown with the airline that is directly linked to that program (e.g. you flew Delta and want to credit the miles at Delta SkyMiles), it can mostly be done online, quickly & easy. It gets a bit trickier with partner airlines, as you often have to send additional documents (e.g the original boarding pass).

Never miss a great deal again! Subscribe to our newsletter + breaking deal alerts:

100% free and you can unsubscribe at any time!

Requirements

We’ve compiled an overview of the most popular frequent flyer programs. Please note that you’ll always need your name, flight number, date, and frequent flyer number to claim the miles, so we won’t be mentioning those every time.

Miles & More

  • Time period: from 7 days to 6 months after the flight.
  • Where? Here
  • Needed information: ticket number and booking class (for flights with Cathay Pacific, Condor, Air Astana, Air Malta, LACSA, and Luxair, you’ll also need a copy of your boarding pass).

  • Needed information: ticket number, booking class (only partner airlines)
  • Weren’t a member yet? You can credit miles for flights of up to 3 months before becoming a member.

  • Time period: 3 days up to 12 months after the flight.
  • Where? Here
  • Needed information: ticket number
  • Weren’t a member yet? Sadly, you won’t be able to get the miles.

Flying Blue (Air France & KLM)

  • Time period: up to 6 months.
  • Where? In your account
  • Needed information: ticket number and booking code (PNR)

Delta SkyMiles

  • Time period: 7 days up to 9 months after the flight.
  • Where? Here
  • Needed information: ticket number
  • Weren’t a member yet? No problem, that doesn’t change anything.

Finnair Plus

  • Time period: 2 weeks up to 6 months after the flight.
  • Where? Here
  • Needed information: ticket number
  • Weren’t a member yet? Sadly, you won’t get any miles then.

Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles

  • Time period: up to 12 months after the flight.
  • Where? In your account under Miles Transactions and Claim Missing Miles
  • Needed information: booking class and ticket number

Where can I Find the Needed Information?

Booking code

The booking code, also known as PNR for passenger name record, will show up in the confirmation email of your booking. This is a 6-letter code, consisting of numbers and/or letters, e.g. “BKDF4G”.

This code is usually also required to check your booking online, as we’ve described here:

How to: Check your Flight Booking Online

Booking class

Some OTAs and most airlines also show the booking class in the confirmation email. Alternatively, some airlines (e.g. Lufthansa, Austrian, LATAM, etc.) also show the booking class on the boarding pass:

Bordingpass Austrian Lufthansa
Austrian and Lufthansa tickets in booking class Y

Should this not be the case, you might have to check online, as described in the article mentioned above.

Bottom Line

Agoda.com offers a nice user interface and a wide selection of accomodation. On top comes a very useful free cancellation option to most of its offers. The portal is especially strong in its native Asian market, offering a wide selection of hotels and much lower rates than other portals.

Surely, their discounts are a short term affair. Nonethenless, they present a nice way to save some bucks if you’re planning to travel to one of the discounted destinations anyway. Especially people travelling to Asia should check out their discounts regularly.

Marriott Bonvoy: 60% Bonus When Buying Points https://travel-dealz.eu/deal/marriott-bonvoy-buy-points/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=rss-feed https://travel-dealz.eu/deal/marriott-bonvoy-buy-points/#respond Fri, 22 May 2020 10:17:42 +0000 https://travel-dealz.eu/?post_type=deal&p=12075

Currently, Marriott Bonvoy offers a 60% bonus with the purchase of 2,000 or more Marriott Bonvoy points! The promotion runs until June 30, 2020. You can redeem your points in numerous hotels or transfer them to many frequent flyer programs. Also, you can buy twice as many points as usual: 100,000 instead of 50,000 per calendar year.

Buy Points

Note the applicable conditions:

  • A maximum of 50,000 100,000 points can be purchased per calendar year. Including the current bonus, the limit amounts to 160,000 points.
  • Points purchased will be credited within 48 hours.
  • New Bonvoy members can buy points after 30 days if they have at least one account activity, otherwise after 90 days
  • Points cannot be returned or refunded

Points can be bought in increments of 1.000, the discount applies from 5.000 points. Here are a few selected prices:

  • 2,000 + 1,200 = 3.300 points at US$25 (~€23)
  • 6,000 + 3,600 = 9.600 points at US$75 (~€68)
  • 12,000 + 7,200 = 19.200 points at US$150 (~€136)
  • 30,000 + 18,000 = 48.000 points at US$375 (~€340)
  • 50,000 + 30,000 = 80.000 points at US$625 (~€567)

Effectively you’ll only pay US$7.81 (~€7.08) per 1,000 points including the discount.

Warning

Please buy points only if you have a redemption plan. Marriott may devalue points at any time, move hotels into higher categories or restrict redemption options such as conversion to frequent flyer miles.

Redeeming points for hotel stays

Marriott Bonvoy has a total of 8 hotel categories. Since a few days there are Peak & Off Peak subcategories for each one of the individual hotel categories. Thus on a day with a low occupancy rate a hotel can cost less but on a day with a very good occupancy rate it can cost significantly more.

If you book the night with purchased points, here are the prices that you’ll have to pay pay off-peak/standard/peak:

Sweet Spots: The Best Redemption Possibilities

The best way to redeem your pointes at the best value is to book redemption stays at hotels with very expensive cash rates, as is the case with almost all hotel loyalty programs programs. A good example is the St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort on the Maldives. Cash rates start at around 1.200€ per night, but as an award stay, one night at a stanard rate could cost you only 85,000 points = $744 (~€672). Resulting in savings of 40%!

The only problem is that you can only buy a maximum of 50,000 100,000 points per calendar year. So you might have to use points collected through hotel stays, buy the points over two calendar years or transfer points from American Express Membership Rewards, for example.

It gets even better when you use the Fifth Night Free Benefit: If you book at least 5 nights as an award stay, every 5th night is free! For example, at the St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort, the price is essentially only 68,000 points/night = 571.20€, a saving of over 50%!

Save more than 50% on luxury hotels!

You can find availabilities on the Marriott Bonvoy website. Please note that you should not buy any points without a plan to redeem them; hoarding points is not recommended as they can be devalued any time!

Transfer Points to Frequent Flyer Programs

Fortunately, Marriott has kept the option of transferring points to many frequent flyer programs after the merger with IHG. The usual conversion ratio is 3 points to 1 mile:

Among them are many programs such as United MileagePlus (10% bonus!), Aegean Miles+Bonus, Delta SkyMiles, Emirates Skywards, Asiana Club, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer…

In addition, for every 60,000 points transferred, there you get a further 5,000 miles on top. If you convert 60,000 points into (usually) 20,000 miles, you will receive 5,000 miles as a bonus = 25,000 miles. This increases the conversion factor from 3:1 to 3:1.25.

Sweet Spots

If you buy (theoretically speaking of course, because of the point limit) 120,000 points for the price of $1,126 (about 996€) and convert them into 50,000 Asiana Club miles, you can book a Lufthansa First Class award flight to the USA for 50,000 miles + 200-300€ in taxes & fees. In the best case scenario, the First Class flight will cost you only around €1,200!

Bangkok & Brazil: €1,325 Lufthansa Business Class Flights from Amsterdam https://travel-dealz.eu/deal/amsterdam-asia-lufthansa-business/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=rss-feed https://travel-dealz.eu/deal/amsterdam-asia-lufthansa-business/#respond Fri, 22 May 2020 09:46:30 +0000 https://travel-dealz.eu/?post_type=deal&p=17380

Star Alliance partners Lufthansa and SWISS are selling very cheap business class tickets to Bangkok, Singapore and Brazilian destinations Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo with departure from Amsterdam. Prices start at only €1,325 and there’s availability until February 2021.

Info

You might be worried because of the Coronavirus, but these flights are available all the way through February 2021, and Lufthansa offers more flexible conditions. You can read more about that here:

LH AMS BKK C 1324
These flights are usually much more expensive.

All flights include an inner European flight to Frankfurt, Munich or Zurich and a long haul business class segment with either Swiss or Lufthansa.

Warning

We expect major shakeups in the airline industry over the following months. Some services might be cancelled, aircraft changed or downgraded. The schedule we describe was planned under different economic circumstances and may very well change.

Search & Book

According to the fare rules, these prices will be available until June 3, 2020. Your trip has to be at least 6 days (or a Sunday) long, and no longer than 3 months. Availability is pretty good up to the latest possible travel dates in February 2021.

You can find all the available dates on Google Flights. It is even easier to search and book via Lufthansa’s best price search tool, or book directly on Lufthansa‘s or SWISS‘ website. If you are keen on saving a few bucks, you can also fire up our flight search and see what online travel agencies have to offer. However, we strongly recommend booking directly with the airlines.

Miles

Both airlines issue the tickets in booking class P. Generally, booking class P gets you more miles with SWISS than with Lufthansa. A Amsterdam – Bangkok roundtrip with SWISS via Zurich would get you:

  • 19,700 on Air China PhoenixMiles
  • 15,000 on Singapore KrisFlyer
  • 12,850 on Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles
  • 12,750 on Miles & More
  • 12,450 on SAS EuroBonus
  • 12,250 on Aegean Miles+Bonus
  • 12,250 on Asiana Club
  • 12,000 on Avianca LifeMiles
  • 12,000 on TAP Miles & Go
  • 12,000 on South African Voyager
  • 12,000 on LATAM Pass
  • 12,000 on EgyptAir Plus
  • 12,000 on Air India Flying Returns
  • 12,000 on EVA Infinity MileageLands
  • 12,000 on Thai Royal Orchid Plus
  • 12,000 on Ethiopian ShebaMiles
  • 12,000 on Copa ConnectMiles
  • 12,000 on United MileagePlus
  • 8,400 on ANA Mileage Club
  • 6,000 on Air Canada Aeroplan
  • 750 on Asia Miles
Data provided by wheretocredit.com. Without guarantee on correctness.

Premium Cabins

There is no question that Lufthansa’s and SWISS’ premium cabins are among the upper half worldwide. Our author Dennis tried both business class products – you can get a glimpse of what you can expect here:

Review: US Border Preclearance at Dublin Airport https://travel-dealz.eu/blog/review-us-border-preclearance-dublin/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=rss-feed https://travel-dealz.eu/blog/review-us-border-preclearance-dublin/#respond Thu, 21 May 2020 07:03:00 +0000 https://travel-dealz.eu/?p=14942

Everyone who travels to the United States of America on a regular basis is quite familiar with them: queues. Building up before counters staffed with immigration officers in their illustrous uniforms. Especially at international hubs like New York, Los Angeles or Miami, they can turn out to be real time killers on any flight reaching US soil from a foreign country.

To ease this process, the US government has opened so called border preclearance facilities in three cities in two countries outside of North America: Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates as well as Dublin and Shannon in the Republic of Ireland.

What happens there can be summed up in a few words – you clear US immigration at your departure airport and your flight arriving in the USA will be treated like a domestic flight. Our authors Adrian, Patrick, Peer & Felix recently made this experience on a flight from Dublin to Newark Liberty Airport.

US Border Preclearance at Dublin Airport

First of all, it is not a question of choice, but mandatory to pass US border preclearance in Dublin. All Passengers on US-bound flights departing from Dublin have to pass it. Regardless of their citizenship or operating airline. As all flights from Dublin to US airports depart from Terminal 2, your journey will begin there.

Check-in, Pass Security and Follow the Signs

After checking in for your flight, you will proceed normally through security. From there on, you can watch out for the many signs pointing you towards the preclearance facility. Or you can just follow the lingering smell of freedom and fried chicken. Sadly, there is no fried chicken served in the waiting area after passing preclearance. So it may be better to stick with the signs. If you wish to visit a lounge of your choice or do extensive duty free shopping, you need to do this before clearing the US border.

Info

Even if you use US border preclearance facilities – you still need an ESTA or visa to enter the United States. Don’t forget to apply in time!

Clear TSA and US Border Patrol

While most parts of Terminal 2 are located on the upper level of the building, the US preclearance facilities and subsequent gates are located on the ground level. You can find the entrance easily, it is the downward escalator surrounded by an impressive number of US flags. At the bottom of the escalator, you’ll have to pass another security screening, this time conducted by the TSA (US Transport Security Administration). There is no TSA Pre-Check available at Dublin airport.

You continue to a second room full of counters, manned by US immigration officers. There are three lines – one for US Citizens, one for all other nationalities and a third one that leads to a row of US Global Entry kiosks. Here, the officer will ask the usual questions about the nature of your trip. It is here you will get your passport stamped. Congratulations, you just entered America! After that, you proceed to the waiting area that includes several gates, restrooms, small shops, a restaurant/bar hybrid and another lounge.

The lounge 51st&Green is for business class passengers only, who are not allowed to bring guests. If you wish to enjoy lounge access based on your frequent flyer tier or Priority Pass, you need to do this before clearing the US border. The only exception are Oneworld Sapphire or Emerald members flying on Oneworld metal.

Departure Time is an Important Factor

If you google the question “How much extra time does US border preclearance take?” you will get the answer “Between 2 minutes and 2 hours”. This is as true as it is spectaculary unhelpful. While there is no general answer, a look at your departure time can give you some clues. If you get an isolated flight like we did with United’s 9.00 departure to Newark, the facility has to deal with just one planeload of passengers (approx. 300 persons). Things go quick (in our case about 20 minutes). The same goes for departures after 13.00.

If your flights leaves around 11.00, when most Aer Lingus flights depart for their trip across the pond, waiting times skyrocket. Even worse, the comparatively small part of the terminal dedicated to US departures may get crowded and uncomfortable.

Summary

To round things up, a small step-by-step summary of how US border preclearence in Dublin works:

  1. Check-in in Terminal 2.
  2. Pass security normally.
  3. NOW is the time for extensive duty free shopping or tier based lounge access.
  4. Proceed to the US border preclearance facility.
  5. Pass TSA security screening.
  6. Pass the US border patrol.
  7. Wait for your departure in the dedicated waiting area.
  8. Arrive in the USA like you would with a domestic flight.

The Benefits Of US Border Preclearance

The benefits of the US border preclearance program are amazing – as long as your flight departs in one of the aforementioned time frames. After arrival, you are able to leave the airport as quickly as you please (given your bags arrive in time). It worked brilliantly in our case – barely 90 minutes after touchdown in Newark, we stood at the One World Trade Center in Manhattan without any hurry.

Even if you don’t arrive at your final destination instantly, you drastically increase the choices of making your connection flight. This makes consciously routing your flight to America via Dublin an attractive alternative. Given that the price is right.

Montreal & Toronto: €255 Nonstop From Paris (€366 Incl. Bags) https://travel-dealz.eu/deal/france-canada-star-alliance/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=rss-feed https://travel-dealz.eu/deal/france-canada-star-alliance/#respond Wed, 20 May 2020 14:32:24 +0000 https://travel-dealz.eu/?post_type=deal&p=7489

Canadian carriers Air Transat and Air Canada are selling tickets for economy class flights from Paris to Montreal and Toronto at really affordable prices. You can get your nonstop return-flight for only €255 to Montreal with Air Transat. Air Canada charges €259 to Toronto and €290 to Montreal. These are all non-stop connections.

TS CDG YUL 255
Great deal on nonstop flights between Paris and Montreal

As always, cheap economy class flights to Northern America are Light or Basic fares and therefore won’t include any checked bags. If you want to bring more than just a piece of carry-on you can book this flight on Air Canada’s website for €370.

The non-stop connection will take you to Canada in around 8 hours on board of Air Canada’s Boeing 777. If you choose the cheaper option with a layover, you could change planes in Vienna or Munich, for example. Air Transat uses a 3-3-3 configuration on its Airbus A330 between Paris in Montreal. The usual seat layout is 2-4-2, so you can expect a rather narrow experience when choosing this airline.

Warning

We expect major shakeups in the airline industry over the following months. Some services might be cancelled, aircraft changed or downgraded. The schedule we describe was planned under different economic circumstances and may very well change.

Search & Book

The fare rules state that Air Transat tickets will be available until June 15, 2020. But the cheap seats may be sold out earlier than that. You can find possible travel dates for both destinations as late as April 2021. Sadly, we couldn’t find any fare rules for Air Canada’s offer to Toronto.

The minimum stay requirements are 6 days. But you could also return after spending a night from Saturday to Sunday in Canada. The maximum that the fare allows for is 3 months. Don’t forget to get your eTA!

Google Flights (instructions) displays flights and fares correctly. Just choose your date and then book via our flight search or on the carrier’s website. Whatever works best for you.

Info

This is a Star Alliance fare that does not include check-in luggage. Additionally, some other disadvantages may apply, especially when flying with United:

Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian

Lufthansa Group airlines call this fare Economy Light. You can select your seats during the check-in process. While these airlines still allow Star-Alliance-Gold customers to bring one 23kg bag, it is said that this benefit will soon be eliminated without much warning.

United Airlines

The long-haul United Basic Economy allows Star-Alliance-Gold customers to fly with 2 x 23 kg luggage, or even 3 x 32 kg if you’re a MileagePlus frequent flyer. Nevertheless, there are other restrictions:

  • You cannot reserve your seats. Even at the time of check-in, you’ll be automatically assigned a seat, which you cannot change.
  • You’ll be the last one to board the plane (except if you’re a frequent flyer).
  • Additionally, if you’re a MileagePlus-customer:
    • No free Economy-Plus upgrades
    • Only 50% PQM instead of 100%, and only 0.5 PQS per flight
    • No modifications (e.g. Same Day-Changes) possible
    • Upgrades are not permitted
Air Canada

On flights with Air Canada, there is also a Basic Economy, but it is not quite as restrictive as United’s. If you have a Star-Alliance-Gold-Status, you can give up a 23 kg luggage, and Air-Canada-Altitude status holders can even be allowed up to 3 x 32 kg.

Other restrictions include:

  • You can reserve seats, but at a higher price than usual for Economy.
  • For Air Canada Altitude customers:
    • 25% miles for transatlantic flights, none for domestic.
    • Upgrades are not permitted.
    • From Prestige 25K onwards you can select your seats.

If you feel that these restrictions are unbearable, you should book over Lufthansa.com or United.com and select the rate that includes luggage for roughly €80 more.

Star Alliance carrier TAP Portugal keeps pumping out insane oneway fares from the United States to Europe. This time, the carrier offers to take you from San Francisco to London (both Gatwick and Heathrow), Barcelona, Paris or Rome as low as €80 (~US$88)! A checked bag comes at the price of €60 (~US$66). All of these flights have a layover in Lisbon, that you can stretch out up to five days without increasing the flight costs.

You can find these flights in late 2020 and early 2021. Please be careful when booking in these troubled times, as the fare is not refundable!

Update

This great offer is still available. On some days, you will only find the cheapest fare when booking via an online travel agency, which might be bothersome for various reasons. We have updated the availability calendar to show you all dates on which the cheapest tickets are sold by TAP.

TP SFO LGW 80

Thanks to our reader who gave us notice via Report a Deal!

TAP sends brand-new Airbus A330-900 NEO aircraft on its four weekly services from San Francisco to Lisbon. It features a 2-4-2 seating pattern in economy class. Connecting flights feature A320 family aircraft.

Warning

We expect major shakeups in the airline industry over the following months. Some services might be cancelled, aircraft changed or downgraded. The schedule we describe was planned under different economic circumstances and may very well change.

Search & Book

We were not able to retrieve fare rules for this gem and therefore cannot tell you when it’s going to expire. But it shows almost daily availability. We’ve compiled all possible travel dates for you:

The calendar will forward you to skyscanner. Even if you find cheaper tickets via online travel agencies, we recommend booking with the airline. This way, you can add bags without paying extra fees to an OTA, you get an additional $12 discount from TAP (if you subscribe to their Miles&Go frequent flyer program) and – most importantly – you can add a lengthy stopover without increasing the flight cost.

Select TAP
TAP gives a €10 / $12 discount on its booking site when subscribing to Miles&Go.

Adding a Stopover in Lisbon or Porto

When going to our flight search and selecting to book via flytap.com, you will be greeted by this user-friendly pop up:

TAP Stopover offer
Add a stopover on flytap.com.

It allows you to add a stopover in Portugal without much hassle, or continue your booking without a stopover. It was never easier to extend your trip without paying more for your flights.

American Airlines’ Business Class

American’s Business Class is generally well received. Their food and beverage service gets positive feedback as well as their lie flat seat. In contrast, their lackluster lounges and bulky air bag seat belts are main points of criticism. You can read a more detailed review in English or German.

Information & Tips for New York

It is THE dream destination in the USA. The 5 districts of New York City offer more than any other metropolis in the world. And due to the high number of flights to New York, it is usually the cheapest way to get to the USA.

Best Time to Travel

The best travel time with moderate temperatures is from April to June and from September to November. Summers can bring heat waves with high humidity. Winters are often snowy and very cold.

From the airport to the city

New York City is served by three commercial airports: John F. Kennedy Intl. Airport in Queens (probably the most famous), Newark Intl. Airport in Newark, New Jersey (which is not located in NYC, but serves the metropolitan area just like the others) and LaGuardia Airport also in Queens (which is closest to the city).

John F. Kennedy Intl. Airport

Public transport: From Manhattan by subway or LIRR to Jamaica (price varies from $2.75 – $10.00), continue with AirTrain to JFK ($6). Travel time 45 – 60 minutes.

Taxi: To Manhattan $52.50 (+ $5.50 toll), 45 – 90 minutes depending on traffic.

Newark Intl. Airport

Public transport: Almost $20 with a combination of AirTrain Newark and NJ Transit to Penn Station. Almost 45 minutes drive.

Taxi: To Manhattan $50 – $70 (+ $8 toll), journey time 35 – 60 minutes depending on traffic.

LaGuardia Airport

Public transport: LaGuardia is only served by buses, these are slow and don’t have much space to store luggage, but with $2,75 they are very cheap.

Taxi: To Manhattan $20 – $30, journey time 15 – 30 minutes depending on traffic.
