Macau

Macau is a Chinese special administrative region that is located on the western side of the Pearl River estuary, opposite of Hong Kong. It offers a globally unique mixture of Chinese and Portuguese culture and cuisine as it used to be a Portuguese colony. Beside a city centre full of eye pleasing colonial architecture, Macau’s main attractions are its large casino hotels. These exceed even Las Vegas in number of slot machines and amount of yearly casino revenue.

Citizens of most EU countries will receive a 90 day visa on arrival at any official Macau border, regardless if arriving by plane, ship or bus. A Chinese Visa is not required.

Best Time to Visit
Being located in a subtropical climate zone, spring and autumn are the best travel times thanks to moderate temperatures and few rainy days. From May to August, temperatures rise up to 35 degrees and heavy rainfalls tend to occur daily. Since most of Macau’s points of interest are located indoors (the casinos), it is basically a year round destination.

From the Airport to the City
Macau Int’l Airport is located on an artificial island on the edge of Taipa Island. Almost any point in Macau can be reached within twenty minutes either by Taxi, public buses or Macau’s light rail system. Tickets for connection services to Hong Kong (by ferry) or Chinese cities Zhuhai and Guangzhou (by bus) can be purchased at the airport.
