Saudi Arabia: €108 Return Wizz Air Flights from European Cities (Personal Item Only)

Budget airline Wizz Air recently announced 20 new routes to Dammam, Jeddah and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. The country, which opened up to tourists and has big tourism plans is normally very expensive to fly to. The flights start at €108, but might even get lower: In our experience Wizz prices drop a few weeks after new route announcements.

There are two negative points, however:

  • The price only includes a personal item (40x30x20 cm). Wizz is very unreliable when it comes to luggage costs, heavily depending on the route, time of booking, time of flight etc. Prices for a carry-on bag start at €8 and the airport price is always €25.
  • The visa options aren’t cheap: an eVisa can set you back SAR 535 (~€135) while the visa on arrival costs SAR 480 (~€121).
Info

Please note that Wizz Air usually denies boarding if you would transit in the country with the explanation of “being a point-to-point airline”.

Routes

You have multiple route options. Just select the one you’d like, and you will be sent to Wizz Air’s price calendar. We have added the price with and without Wizz Discount Club (WDC).

These are the possible flights to Jeddah:

You can reach Dammam from:

And here are the possible origins to Riyadh:

Flights are available between September 2022 and May 2023. We recommend avoiding travelling between March 22 and April 21, 2022. Saudi-Arabia celebrates Ramadan during this time, reducing public life in the country to a minimum.

Wizz Air offers cheap flights to three cities, Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam in Saudi Arabia.

Wizz Air operates a fleet of Airbus A320 family aircraft. Having flown the airline over 50 times, I can recommend booking A320ceo services (30 rows) as you have a chance for a comfier aircraft, with some even having recline. You may want to fill your water bottles and buy some food before departure since food and drinks are more expensive than on Ryanair (with fewer hot meal options).

Search & Book

The flights are sold as one-ways, and you can combine two different tickets. You can even miss your outbound on a return flight since Wizz Air is a low-cost airline. Therefore, no minimum or maximum stay applies. Since there is no expiration date for this deal, prices may rise or even decrease at any time.

We recommend avoiding travel between March 22 and April 21, 2022. Saudi-Arabia celebrates Ramadan during this time, reducing public life in the country to a minimum.

You should always book flights on wizzair.com. Other websites sell add-ons for much more and adding them after booking is usually more pricey. You can look for flights using the links above, which will guide you to the airline’s best price search. Google Flights could be used when looking for one-ways, although they usually don’t sync Wizz prices well.

Wizz Air Discount Club and Add-Ons

In the prices, we have mentioned “WDC” which stands for Wizz Discount Club. Being a member gives you a ~€10 discount on all Wizz Flights which cost more than €20 and around €5 savings from checked-in bag prices. The membership will even out after one return flight for a party of two or two return flights for a passenger travelling solo (or two/four one-ways respectively) without considering bag savings.

When it comes, to add-ons, Wizz Air is very confusing even for the airline’s frequent travellers. Basically, the prices are never the same, it can even differ for two persons booking a flight at the same time. However, they usually don’t price add-ons for new routes immediately, that’s why you should book ASAP: a carry-on on my example BUD flight costs just HUF 4,600 (~€11) per flight. Checked in bag prices are as follows:

  • 10 kg: HUF 6,900 (~€17) per flight (Usually, you can check your carry-on for free)
  • 20 kg: HUF 11,100 (~€27) (HUF 9,150 (~€22) with WDC) per flight
  • 26 kg: HUF 14,450 (~€35) (HUF 12,500 (~€31) with WDC) per flight
  • 32 kg: HUF 15,900 (~€39) (HUF 13,950 (~€34) with WDC) per flight

Destination

Hotel prices in Saudi Arabia usually start at roughly €70, depending on the hotel category. Whichever category and hotel you opt for, make sure to get the best price! Our recommendation is to search on booking.com, or even on our own Travel-Dealz hotel search:

Sorry, guys, but what on Earth are you on about? Having transited A LOT with Wizz Air throughout the years, I’m not sure at which point would you get the chance to explain that you’re transiting only for them to retort with the denied boarding.

Hi! We mean it for flights where visa restrictions apply, in this case, Saudi Arabia. If you’d travel without a visa using the transit rule, you would be denied boarding. For these flights, most passengers have to check in at the airport and they’ll check your documents there. Unfortunately, I speak from a personal experience when Wizz Air flew to Russia. Of course, you can transfer on your own risk intra-EU or intra-visa-free countries with Wizz Air without problems.
