Star Alliance member Turkish Airlines is keen on getting you to the island of Zanzibar at low prices, with flights starting at €311 (~NOK 3,126) from Oslo. The fare is available until December 2021, with flights starting in January or February 2022 costing just €20 more. Even better, it includes two checked bags up to 23 kg each. Sadly, a change of planes (in Istanbul) is necessary both ways.

Worldwide travel restrictions are in place to slow the spread of Covid-19. We strongly recommend gathering detailed information about the travel and quarantine restrictions that apply to your desired origin and destination.

A good start is the International Air Transport Association (IATA) website. It provides current updates on a country’s immigration policies. Even better, the Covid-19 Travel Regulations Map is one of the most useful tools you can find.

Our availability calendar shows you all roundtrip dates available at €338 or less, for trips up to two weeks. Flights in 2022 are usually a bit more expensive than at the tail end of 2021.

The inbound flight from Zanzibar to Istanbul is operated with a stop in Kilimanjaro, Tanzania. Both flights to and from Zanzibar are single aisle Boeing 737 services instead of typical long haul planes.

Search & Book

According to the fare rules, the cheap tickets are on sale until April 27, 2021. A minimum stay of three days or one night from Saturday to Sunday applies. The low fares show up for flights starting between October 2021 and March 2022.

Google Flights will show you dates for longer trips than the two weeks above. We strongly recommend booking directly with Turkish Airlines.

Just €310 on a route you’d normally pay double the price.

Information & Tips for Zanzibar

The Zanzibar archipelago with its main island Unguja lies in the Indian Ocean off the east coast of Africa and belongs to Tanzania. Zanzibar is especially known for its beautiful beaches and as an inexpensive alternative to the Maldives. The UNESCO World Heritage Site Stone Town with its buildings made of light coral limestone and mangrove wood in the 19th century is also worth a visit.

The Best Time to Visit

Zanzibar is relatively close to the equator and therefore the climate is tropical. Due to the south-west and north-east monsoon there are two rainy seasons per year between the end of March and the end of May and in November and December. Temperatures average 27 °C with maximums just above 30 °C and nightly temperatures not below 20 °C. During the two rainy seasons the humidity can be very unpleasant. Therefore, the ideal travel time is between the beginning of June and the end of September as well as in January and February. In general, however, you can visit Zanzibar all year round.

Immigration & Visa Requirements

With most EU passports (must be valid for at least 6 months on departure) a visa is required for Tanzania. You can apply for the visa either in advance at an embassy or as a Visa on Arrival for a fee of $50 when entering the country at the Zanzibar International Airport. The fee can only be paid by credit card.

Departure Charge

In addition, depending on the airline, an exit fee or tax may be payable on departure from Zanzibar International Airport. For some airlines the departure tax is already included in the airfare.
