Sweet Spot: Booking Cathay Pacific FIRST Class With Miles

First Class Cathay Pacific

Cathay Pacific‘s first class is said to be one of the best first class products on the market and only rarely available at cheap prices. Using miles for this unique experience is worth it, especially as the fees & taxes are relatively low for this sweet spot!

First Class From Europe to Asia

With the British Airways Executive Club, you can fly nonstop to Hong Kong for 123,750 avios + €153 fees & taxes. Alternatively, Asia Miles only charges 100,000 miles and the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan even only charges 70,000 miles:

  • BA Executive Club: 123,750 avios + €153 fees & taxes
  • Asia Miles: 100,000 miles + €152 fees & taxes
  • Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan: 70,000 miles + €53 fees & taxes

Lately, the availability of Cathay’s first class was very bad over the Executive Club. This seams to have changed now. We were able to find many dates with at least one available seat (e.g. in March 2020).

First Class in Asia

Flying in Cathay Pacific’s full first class in Asia used to be an absolute sweet spot. Sadly they’ve stopped selling these flights in mid-2019, except for to two destinations: Tokyo-Haneda and Beijing.

We were at least able to find availability in first class between Hong Kong and Beijing:

  • BA Executive Club: 44,000 avios + €53 fees & taxes
  • Asia Miles: 40,000 miles + €53 fees & taxes
  • Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan: 27,500 miles + €53 fees & taxes

Search & Book

You can look for suitable dates and book these flights directly at the British Airways Executive Club or at Asia Miles:

For Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan, you’ll sadly only be able to book over the phone.

You should be able to book the flights over every Oneworld frequent flyer program. The Executive Club, however, is a good way to check availability. Asia Miles may have more available dates, that aren’t available to other partner airlines.
