Starting at DKK 1,191 / €159, Lufthansa, United and more Star Alliance carriers are offering cheap fares to the US, more specifically New York and Los Angeles, from Copenhagen. These fares are hand luggage only (except for Star Alliance gold members).
These cheap fares are only possible by booking through Danish online travel agents (follow our links). Best prices are possible with Visa & Mastercard debit cards but credit cards are also only marginally more expensive.
Connecting times are sometimes not optimal with the cheapest fares. Spending €30-40 more will give you better options. With our example connection above, you can enjoy a long layover in Toronto and experience the city for a few hours.
Several different routings are possible. You could fly via Frankfurt (Lufthansa), Brussels (Brussels Airlines), Zurich (SWISS) or Toronto (Air Canada) to the US.
Copenhagen is easily reachable. Easyjet and SAS are offering lots of flights from different European cities.
Seach & Book
According to the fare rules this deal expires on September 15, 2019. However it is rather unlikely this fare will be available that long. Travel periods have to be between August 19, 2019 and March 28, 2020.
Minimum stay length has to be at least 3 days or a night from Saturday to Sunday. A maximum stay of 3 months is permitted.
You can find the fares via Google Flights (instructions). Afterwards you can book directly with the airlines or through the Danish Momondo to save a few bucks more.
Mileage
Flight tickets are issued in booking class K. Depending on which airline is operating the flights and which program you are collecting miles with, the mileage credit varies between 0% and 50%. The following are a few examples of mileage credits:

Award miles are calculated revenue-based if the ticket is issued by Lufthansa or SWISS - 50% status miles with United MileagePlus

All promoted prices are Star Alliance fares without checked luggage allowance. Especially when flying United, you will also have other cutbacks:
Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian
On flights with Lufthansa Group carriers, you will be able to select your seat for free at the time of check-in. Star Alliance Gold member can currently bring one checked bag (23 kg). But it is not sure how long this will be possible.
United Airlines
When flying United you can still bring two pieces of checked luggage (23 kg each) as a Star Alliance Gold member, MileagePlus frequent flyer can even bring three pieces (32 kg each). But there are other disadvantages:
- No seat selection. You will be assigned a seat during check-in and can’t change it anymore
- Lowest priority while boarding
- For MileagePlus members:
- No complimentary Economy+ seats
- Only 50% tier miles (instead of 100%)
- No same-day changes
- No upgrades
Air Canada
Air Canada’s Basic Economy fare isn’t as restricted as the one from Lufthansa and United. Star Alliance Gold members can still bring one piece of checked luggage (23 kg), and Air Canada Altitude customers can bring up to three pieces (32kg each).
- Altitude members:
- Only 25% earning rate for international flights, no miles for domestic
- No upgrades
