Hawaii: $149 / €138 Southwest Airlines r/t Flights from the US West Coast (with Luggage)

Southwest, the American pioneer of low-cost airlines, has been offering flights between the American mainland and Hawaii since 2019. Meanwhile, the route network has grown properly, and Southwest serves more than 20 routes between Western US and Hawaii.

Round-trip flights can currently be booked on various routes for only US$149 (~€140)! These prices are the result of a sale by Southwest. Southwest offers a decisive advantage: 2x 22 kg (50 pounds) of checked baggage is included in the price. You can travel in the last four months of 2023.

Flights between Hawaiian islands are discounted, as well. Oneway tickets are available for as little as US$31 (~€29)US$44 (~€41).

Southwest now serves the routes to Hawaii exclusively with Boeing 737 Max aircraft. Despite the free checked bags, there are some other distinct advantages Southwest holds over US legacy carriers. The seat pitch is rather generous, a nice touch in the six-hour-flights. Even better, the airline does not operate red-eye flights in any direction. This spares you a short night in an airplane paired with an early-morning arrival.

Search & Book

The super-low prices will probably sell out earlier, but are set to last until June 15, 2023, pacific standard time. That means Europeans can book their tickets until Friday morning, 09:00 CET. According to Southwest’s website, you need to use the discount 40OFF, but the prices are usually discounted without entering it manually.

Flights with Southwest are usually not included in Google Flights or other flight search engines. So it’s best to find the flights directly on Southwest.com. When looking for a connection, you can call up the Low Fare Calendar, which we have linked for you above:

It is unclear how long the cheap tickets will be available, as these prices come and go frequently. There are no assigned seats at Southwest. On the plane, you can take any seat that is still available. It is therefore important to check in as early as possible (24 hours before departure) in order to get a good seat in the boarding line.

Including checked baggage!

Unusual for a low-cost airline, but with Southwest, 2 x 50 pounds (approx. 22.6 kg) of checked luggage are included as standard. However, the sum of the dimensions of the item of luggage length + width + depth must not be greater than 62 inches = 157.48 cm (as is the case with many other airlines).
