KLM 787 business sitzanordnung

SkyTeam members Air France, KLM and Delta bring you some excellent premium fares to Montreal and Toronto with departure from Spain. Prices from Bilbao start at €1,574, while flights from Madrid and Barcelona are only a few euros more. Luckily, flights to North America are not (yet) subject to Air France-KLM’s costly seat selection or business light fares, allowing passengers to check two checked bags of 32 kilos.

You can get the following prices:

Departing from Bilabo, you can choose between Air France and KLM, while from Madrid and Barcelona, Delta is another choice. Departing from Madrid, you can have your flight to Amsterdam on Air Europa’s Boeing 787 with lie-flat seats.

Between Amsterdam and Montreal, KLM flies its Airbus A330s (2-2-2), while to Toronto it also operates its Boeing 787s (1-2-1) and Boeing 777s (2-2-2). Air France flies its Airbus A350s and Boeing 777s to both places, both having a 1-2-1 configuration. Delta operates its Boeing 767s to both cities, offering a 1-2-1 configuration.

Before Covid-19, Air France still had 4 different business class versions, but now, as the A380 & A340 have left the fleet, only 3 remain. The business class in the A380 was no longer up to today’s standards, unlike the business class that’s installed in the Boeing 787-Dreamliner and Airbus A350, which is modern and comfortable. This business class is now continuously being installed in other Air France planes as well.

If you’re travelling to North America, Delta is surely not a bad choice, especially if the route is operated with an Airbus plane. The seats in the Boeing 767 are good, but already quite old. The seats in the A330 and especially the A350, however, are on an extremely high level. All A330neo and A350 planes already have the Suite seats installed, which offer maximum privacy.

By now, modern seats have also become the norm at KLM. Its business class is definitely not a bad choice, also thanks to the good service. Like many other airlines, the Boeing 787 always has the newest business class seats installed.

Air Europa Business Class

Air Europa arranges seats in a 2-2-2 configuration. All seats are facing forwards with a slight angle towards the neighboring seat. While this is uncommon, it has not been criticized as too intimate. Especially the food & beverage service has received great reviews. A highlight of Air Europa’s Business Class is the baggage allowance of 3 x 23kg.

Due to the dense seating (for Business Class flights) and friendly flight attendants, Air Europa’s Business Class has been deemed to convince with warmth & personality, not luxury. A more detailed review can be found here (Boeing 787) and here (Airbus A330).

The fare rules do not state how long this fare will remain valid. There is a minimum stay of 7 days and a maximum stay of 12 months.

Google Flights‘ calendar above that will show you availabilities. Once you selected your dates, you can go to either KLM’s website or Delta’s website. While Delta offers better prices, KLM gives you a wider range of possible flights at the lowest fare.

Information & Tips for Toronto

Toronto is the most populous city in Canada and the provincial capital of Ontario. The city is located on the northwest coast of Lake Ontario, one of the Great Lakes of North America.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Toronto is in late spring (April/May) or early autumn (September). Thanks to mild temperatures and plenty of sunshine, these months are best suited for tourism.

From the Airport to the City Center

Toronto has two commercial airports, Toronto Pearson (Canada’s largest airport) and Toronto Billy Bishop. The latter is located on an island and is serviced by a free ferry every 15 minutes – if you land here, you are downtown in 10 minutes! Toronto Pearson is a little further out, a taxi to the city centre costs $53 CAD. The Union Pearson Express train connects the Union Station in the city center with the airport in 25 minutes, a one-way ride costs $12.35 CAD for adults.

Information & Tips for Montreal

While Quebec City is the political capital of the province of Quebec, Montreal is the economic and cultural center. At the same time, it is the second largest city in Canada!

Flights to Montreal

Just like Toronto, Montreal is a pretty cheap destination for flights. Air Canada flies non-stop to Frankfurt/Main and Lufthansa flies non-stop from Munich to Montreal. In addition, there are many other connecting flights with stopovers in Europe or Toronto (mostly with Air Canada) as well as via the USA. Return flights for around 300€ (only hand luggage, checked luggage mostly 80-100€ surcharge) are a common sight. However, you should avoid the school holidays – especially the summer holidays! During this period, airfares quickly rise to over 500€ and reach highs of up to 1.000€ for a direct flight in economy class. Do not expect good deals during this time.

Best Time to Travel

The best times to visit Montreal are from March to May or from September to November. Thanks to comparatively mild temperatures and plenty of sunshine, these months are best suited for tourism. If you want to experience the Canadian winter you can also visit between December and February, but at this time you have to deal with weather restrictions.

From the Airport to the City Center

By taxi you pay a fare of $40CAD (approx. 27€) between the airport and the city centre. With the STM Airport Express (bus number 747) you pay $10CAD (approx. 6,70€) – the ticket is also valid on citywide public transit for 24 hours. The travel times by taxi as well as by bus depend strongly on the traffic and can take more than one hour during peak times.

Information & Tips for Canada

The North American country of Canada is the second largest country in the world in terms of surface area. In Canada, English and French are the official languages. Tourists visit Canada because of its many natural attractions and large cities, and the flight prices vary between the east and west coasts. Flights to the east coast e.g. to Toronto or Montreal regularly cost less than 400€. For flights to the west coast, e.g. to Vancouver or Calgary, prices are closer to 400€ – 600€. Other destinations are mostly only reachable with an additional domestic flight. Just like in the USA, most airlines now only offer cheap fares that do not include checked baggage. For checked baggage you should budget an additional 50€ per direction.

Best Time to Travel

Canada is a huge country with many varying climate conditions, but it is safe to say that the winters (November to March) are very cold and snowy in most regions. Summers are relatively mild and partly rainy.

Immigration & Visa Requirements

Most EU citizens do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 6 months. However, an electronic travel waiver (eTA) must be applied for, similar to the ESTA required for entry into the USA. This costs CA$7 (~€5) and is valid for up to 5 years.

Currency

Canada’s national currency is the Canadian Dollar (CAD). One euro is approximately CA$1.47. Many credit cards may charge a foreign currency fee of up to 2% to pay in CAD.

Transfer from Canada to the USA

Canada is located north of the USA and is the only other country apart from Mexico that shares a border with it (2 borders, actually: Alaska borders Canada in the southeast!) At many airports in Canada US immigration is already done before departure, so you arrive in the USA as a “domestic” passenger in the domestic terminal which can potentially save you lots of time since you do not have to stand in line at customs upon arriving. By land the same entry formalities take place as at the airport or by train at the station in Canada. Most EU citizens don’t need a visa and can instead make use of the digital ESTA procedure.
