Try Saudia’s Booze-Free Business: €860 from Athens to Singapore

SkyTeam member Saudia is currently offering discounted tickets for business class flights from Athens to Singapore, with tickets selling as cheap as €860 (or €938 on their website). The downsides are two stops in each direction and a long layover in Jeddah both ways.

Your trip will include a layover in Jeddah. You are almost always required to spend around 7 hours at the airport in each direction.

Saudia will operate an Airbus A320 between Jeddah and Athens. These planes feature a dedicated business class cabin with a 2-2 seating pattern. Onward flights to Singapore via Male are operated using a Boeing 787 with lie-flat seats.

Search & Book

The fare rules don’t mention a date when this offer will expire, nor do they mention a specific travel period. It doesn’t even seem as if there’s a minimum stay requirement. You can find availabilities in September and October 2022 as well as March through May 2023.

Use Google Flights (instructions) to find the cheapest available flights. Once you know when your trip should take place, you should book on Saudia’s website.

Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?

More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend booking with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:

Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airline has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.

If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward information like flight changes instead of receiving them directly from the airline. In many cases, you may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem-solving.

This especially applies to premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.

Baggage and Other Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are industry standard by now. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.

This also applies to other things like food services, insurances or priority treatment. In almost all cases, you pay less for additional amenities when booking on the airlines’ website.

Mileage

Saudi Arabian Airlines is a member of the SkyTeam alliance. Therefore, you can earn miles on many frequent flyer programs, and the earning rate is pretty good. 150% is the usual rate for the tickets issued in booking class I. Here’s what you can expect for this trip:
