Redeeming Avios Effectively

You can transfer Avios to your British Airways Executive Club account at the rate of 1:1 if both accounts exist for longer than ninety days, and you’ve gathered at least one avio on both accounts. Further, the Executive Club account may not be part of a household account.

Iberia Business Class to San Juan / Washington DC / New York / Boston: 34,000 Avios + €121

Iberia Plus award flights have the distinct advantage of comparatively low taxes & surcharges. You can, for example, buy a business class ticket from Madrid to San Juan, Washington DC, New York or Boston at 34,000 Avios (Zone 5; 3,001-4,000 Miles; Offseason) + €121 taxes & surcharges.

You can buy 34,000 miles in the following ways:

• 22,500 Avios at €335 + 12,000 Avios at €189 = 34,500 Avios at €524 (+€121 in surcharges, totalling €645)
• 30,000 Avios at €445 + 4,500 Avios at €85 = 34,500 Avios at €530 (+€121 in surcharges, totalling €651)
• 37,500 Avios at €549 (+€121 in surcharges, totalling €670)

Award flight Special: Short Haul Flights starting at 4,500 Avios + €21

Another favourite of ours are short-haul award flights with British Airways or Iberia. Instead of the full taxes & surcharges that usually apply to award flights (Reward Flight Saver), Iberia offers a base rate of €21 for one-ways and €42 for return tickets.

Depending on distance and peak/off-peak travel time, you pay between 4,500 and 12,500 Avios:

1. Up to 650 miles: 4,500 / 5,000 Avios
2. 651 – 1,150 miles: 7,500 / 8,250 Avios
3. 1,151 – 2,000 miles: 10,000 / 11,000 Avios
4. 2,001 – 3,000 miles: 11,0000 / 12,500 Avios
5. Madrid – Barcelona: 6,250 Avios
6. Madrid – London: 6,500 / 7,500 Avios
