You would always first fly to Frankfurt in Lufthansa‘s European business class. From there, you would fly roughly 6 hours to Muscat. After a long layover there (roughly 7 hours), you would take another flight, flying almost 8 hours to Jakarta. The way back is almost identical to the outbound route. All Oman Air flights are operated with a Boeing 787.

This fare can be booked for flights without a specific travel period, though you cannot fly between December 15 and January 10. The fare has no expiration date and can thus be withdrawn anytime. The minimum stay requirement is 5 days. Furthermore, your stay cannot exceed 6 months. You can add a free stopover in Oman, both on the outbound and inbound flights.

Our calendar above displays all available dates for trips of up to 28 days. For longer trips, check out Google Flights. The flights can then be booked on Oman Air’s website.

Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?

More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend booking with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:

Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airline has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.

If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward information like flight changes instead of receiving them directly from the airline. In many cases, you may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem-solving.

This especially applies to premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.

Baggage and Other Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are industry standard by now. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.

This also applies to other things like food services, insurances or priority treatment. In almost all cases, you pay less for additional amenities when booking on the airlines’ website.

Mileage

The Oman Air flights are issued in booking class R, while the short Lufthansa flight to Frankfurt is issued in booking class Z. The Oman Air flights should get you:

  • 21,214 Award Miles on Etihad Guest
  • 17,678 Award Miles on Air Canada Aeroplan

Information & Tips for Jakarta

Jakarta is both the largest and the capital of Indonesia and is located in the north-west of the island of Java. The city is not only the financial, economic and cultural centre of Indonesia, but also the most populous city in Southeast Asia!

The Best Time to Visit

Not even dry season is completely dry on Java, but the temperatures and humidity from May to October are the most pleasant. Occasionally it can still be stormy.

From the airport to the city

A taxi from the airport to the city costs about €5-7 depending on the provider and the exact route. Alternatively, there are also cheaper shuttle buses, but some of them have a much longer journey time.
