Bangkok & Phuket: £495 / €567 Lufthansa Group Premium Economy from London (with Vienna Stopover)

Austrian Airlines Premium Economy Sitzneigung

Star Alliance members Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, SWISS and Thai Smile together with Bangkok Airways offer premium economy flights from London to Bangkok and Phuket as low as £495 (~€561). You must spend at least 24 hours in Vienna to get that fare. If that’s against your liking, you can still fly for £611 (~€693).

To find flights with stopovers, you would first need to find a return flight to Bangkok or to Phuket at a cheap price using Lufthansa’s best-price search. Then, you should put the departure date as the second segment (Vienna to Thailand) and the day before as the first segment (London to Vienna) in the form below, along with the return date as the third segment (Thailand to London). Our form will forward you to Lufthansa’s website, where you can select your flights and book the ticket. That way, you will most probably find the cheapest fare. You should choose the same flights and have at least 24 hours in Vienna to get the fare.

You would first fly to Vienna on Austrian’s A320 family aircraft in economy class. Then, you would continue on the airline’s Boeing 777s which feature three rows of premium economy in a 2-4-2 configuration. If you fly to Phuket, you would then transfer to either Thai Smile’s or Bangkok Airways’ Airbus A320 family aircraft.

On some Bangkok itineraries, you would fly SWISS’ Boeing 777s from Bangkok to Zürich, which come with similar characteristics as Austrian’s.

Search & Book

The fare rules do not specify an expiration date. An 8-night minimum stay applies in addition to a one-year maximum stay. You can travel between August and October 2023.

The best way to look for flights is to first look up roundtrip fares on Lufthansa’s website. Our buttons above will lead you to the airline’s low-price calendar. Then, if you’d like to make the price cheaper with a layover, you should enter those dates as the second and third segments. The first segment should be the day before the long flight, leaving at least 24 hours in Vienna. Google Flights does not show the prices well, and we highly recommend booking through the airline.

Lufthansa issues the long flights in booking class N, the shorter Austrian flights in booking class Y. Thai Smile flights in booking class U and Bangkok Airways flights in booking class Q.

Information & Tips for Phuket

Phuket is a southern province and also the largest island of Thailand in Southeast Asian. While Bangkok is more of a tourist destination, Phuket offers a lot of recreational options on the beach and is located in the Indian Ocean rather than the Gulf of Thailand.

Although Phuket is not always as easy to reach as Bangkok and it will often take an additional layover to get there, you can combine your beach holiday with a city trip to Bangkok. You can first book your flights to Bangkok and then separate (cheap!) flights from Bangkok to Phuket if you really can’t find a good deal from Europe.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to travel is from November to February. During this time it is dry and comparatively cool but of course still ideal for a beach holiday. The rainy season runs from mid-May to October.

From/to the airport

From the airport to different cities/resorts on the island, it is best to take a taxi (or Uber). Bus connections are cheaper but also much slower.

Information & Tips for Thailand

Thailand is an increasingly popular holiday destination for Europeans – both beach and party tourists get their money’s worth in the South Asian tropical state.
Whether Bangkok, Koh Samui or Phuket, Thailand offers multi-faceted cities and quiet beaches. Also, the country is always easy to reach from Europe. Especially to Bangkok, there is almost always at least a good deal!

Best Time to Visit

While hot summer temperatures prevail the whole year long in tropical Thailand, the best travel time is definitely the winter from November to February. Thanks to the northwest monsoon it doesn’t get warmer than 33 degrees. In summer the temperatures can quickly reach 40 degrees. The rainy season also starts in June and will last until October – high humidity is what you’ll have to prepare for!
