SkyTeam member China Eastern Airlines is offering incredible cheap flights from London to Auckland, New Zealand. Tickets for a roundtrip are starting as low as 475€ (£405). A fantastic price to get the other end of the world! Also, the regulations for checked luggage are very generous. China Eastern allows you to bring 2 pieces of luggage (each 23 kg).
If you opt for the cheapest option – technically an open jaw flight – the airport of departure will be London Gatwick while on your way back you’ll arrive at Heathrow. If you want to fly out of Heathrow as well, you’ll have to pay a little extra. But you’ll still stay below 500€ (£427).
From London, you’ll travel to Shanghai where, unfortunately, you’ll have a long layover before your boarding your flight to New Zealand.
Search & Book
As awesome as this deal may be, it is tricky to find. We weren’t able to find any fare rules. So we’re sorry to let you know that we can’t tell you how long this offer will be available. Neither is there any information on the minimum and maximum stay requirements.
Google Flights (instruction) will show you results, but only after entering the exact dates, so it won’t be a big help this time. However, the deal can be found on Skyscanner, so we recommend you look for available dates there.
Basically, the travel dates seem to be in November and December 2019. Some examples that can be found include:
- November 10th to November 26th
- November 15th to December 3rd
- November 17th to December 3rd
- November 24th to December 3rd
All tickets will be issued in booking class Z. Most SkyTeam frequent flyer programs won’t credit you with any miles at all for this flight. The only two exceptions are China Eastern’s own program Eastern Miles as well as Delta’s SkyMiles. The Chinese carrier will credit you with up to 80% of the distance flown, the US airline with up to 55%, depending on your tier.
Information & Tips for Auckland
Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand with a population of approximately 1.5 million and a wide range of tourist attractions and activities for visitors. The city is also an excellent starting point to explore the rest of New Zealand. Auckland is connected to Southeast Asia and Asia pretty well, even non-stop flights to the USA are available. As of now, you’ll have to switch planes at least once when flying to New Zealand from Europe. But this may change since long-range flights are hitting new limits all the time
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Auckland is between March and May and September and November. These are the times when you’ll find comparatively few tourists and can enjoy sunny days and moderate temperatures.
From the airport to the city
A bus to the city center runs every 10 minutes, and the journey will take you about 40 minutes and a ticket for a one-way trip costs approx. 7,50€. A taxi can cost up to 60€, while Uber or Zoomy (similar to Uber) will cost between 24€ and 43€.

How to get to London
London is one of the most comfortable and most inexpensive places to reach when you need to get there because of a cheap deal. Low-cost and ‘normal’ carriers connect various European cities to one of Londons airports daily. Due to a large number of flights, fares are available for very little money. Usually, you can get a return trip from many European airports for far less than 100€!
However, we recommend arriving in London one night before your long-haul flight’s departure. Thunderstorms, strikes and technical defects on the feeder flight could easily lead to you missing your connection. And hey: London is a great city!
