Boston: €182 Non-Stop Iberia Flights from Barcelona (€282 With Luggage)

Boston

It might seem like an error fare, but this offer is for real: Oneworld carrier Iberia is selling tickets for flights from Barcelona to Boston for only €182! It’s probably needless to say that this super cheap fare does not include any checked luggage. If you do want to bring a larger suitcase or bag, prices will climb up to around €282. On the plus side: this Iberia offer is a direct flight, so you won’t have to worry about long layovers.

€182 is incredibly cheap for a transatlantic flight

In case you have been wondering how Iberia manages to sell tickets at such a low price: it is the low-cost carrier LEVEL that is offering the fare from Barcelona to the United States. IAG is not only the owner of LEVEL but also of Iberia and British Airways. As a result, tickets are sometimes sold through either of the airlines.

Warning

We expect further shakeups in the airline industry over the following months. Some services might be cancelled, aircraft changed or downgraded. The schedule we describe may very well change.

Search & Book

Availability for flights that cost less than €200 is quite OK in November and December 2020. We have put together our availability calendar, as to save you some trouble finding the dates:

We also recommend using Google Flights (instructions) to find available dates. Once you’ve found them, book via Iberia’s website or via Skyscanner.

Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?

More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend booking with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:

Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airline has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.

If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward information like flight changes instead of receiving them directly from the airline. In many cases, you may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem-solving.

This especially applies to premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.

Baggage and Other Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are industry standard by now. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.

This also applies to other things like food services, insurances or priority treatment. In almost all cases, you pay less for additional amenities when booking on the airlines’ website.

Mileage

This might not be the most exciting topic when booking a flight for such a low price. But as a matter of form: tickets will be issued in booking class A, giving you a 25% multiplier for the actual distance flown. You can earn around 1.800 award miles for this flight.
Caution: some programs explicitly exclude flights on behalf of LEVEL from earning miles!

Hotels

Hotels in the US are generally speaking very expensive. Boston is amongst the most expensive cities in the US in terms of hotel prices. Therefore you should compare prices, reviews and locations, so that you can make the best deal for your budget. We recommend using booking.com for this:

This is of course nothing new or spectacular.

Same deal, same prices even with more dates was published last year.

With a small trick I got tickets even for about 20 € less, so final price was 159 € per person (BCN-BOS,r/t)
