Until August 5, 2019, you can purchase roundtrip tickets from New York to Johannesburg, South Africa as low as €2,297 / $2,550. If you’re not keen on combining two flights that long back-to-back, you can add a stopover in Abu Dhabi for free in each direction.

The fourteen hour flights between Abu Dhabi and New York are operated by Airbus A380-800 aircraft, the largest commercial plane ever built. Flights from and to South Africa are Airbus A330-200 service. On your inbound flight, you can clear customs in Abu Dhabi as the airport offers US border preclearence. You will be able to leave the airport much quicker after arriving at JFK.

Search & Book

According to fare rules, this offer will be available until August 5, 2019. It applies to flights leaving New York between August 1, 2019 and April 30, 2020. Your trip has to be at least seven days long to use fare, while it may not be longer than six months. Our research indicates that it is only available for flights leaving New York Monday through Wednesday. You need to purchase your ticket at least 21 days in advance.

We recommend to use Google Flights to check out when the lowest fare is available (instructions). You can use the dates you found to search for lower fares in our flight search or book directly at etihad.com. The latter might come at a higher price, but gives you much better customer service in case anything goes wrong.

Etihad’s Business Class

While this may not be the smartest or fastest way to get from New York to South Africa, it surely is one of the most comfortable. Etihad’s A380-800 offers a 1-2-1 seating pattern, that covers about 2/3 of the plane’s upper deck. All seats can be reclined to a lie flat position and feature deployable blends for maximum privacy. A similiar product awaits you on your flights to South Africa.
