Status Levels
There are 3 status levels with Best Western Rewards:
Gold
You will reach this status level after 7 stays, 10 nights or 10,000 points in one calendar year. After achieving Gold status, you will receive 10% more points on your stays.
Platinum
If you happen to do 10 stays, 15 nights or 15,000 points in one calendar year, you will reach Platinum status. After achieving that, you will get 15% more points on your stays, an upgrade depending on availability and a small gift when checking in.
Diamond
The only difference between Diamond status and Platinum status is a higher points bonus of 30%.
You would usually need to do at least 20 stays, 30 nights or 30,000 points for this status level. All benefits are applicable from your next stay on.
Validity
Your matched status is valid until the end of the following year. Example: If you match your status in July 2020, your status will be valid until December 31, 2021. As an aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic, Best Western extends all statuses until January 31, 2022.
Points & Benefits
If you have a status with another program, you will know about this: You can only collect points, stays and nights with stays that were directly booked via Best Western. Additionally all status benefits will only be granted if you book that way.
To be more precise: Bookings via Expedia, eBookers, booking.com etc., will not give you any status benefits nor any points or eligible stays and nights.
Here is a part of Best Western Reward’s terms and conditions that makes it very clear:
EARNING POINTS FOR STAYS
All stays are eligible to earn points (โEligible Staysโ) with the exception of the following (Non-Eligible Staysโ):
Stays booked through online travel agencies (โOTAsโ), such as priceline.com, expedia.com, travelocity.com, booking.com, kayak.com (i.e., channels other than Best Western branded booking channels);
Stays booked through tour operators; and
Stays booked at special discounted rates, such as employee rates, FIT/wholesale/net rates, motorcoach/bus rates, crew rates, BWR free night awards rates (FX rates), or discounted rates for stays longer than thirty (30) nights.
Summary
While the status levels of Best Western do not come with amazingly huge benefits, it is still a “nice to have” status match that you should consider if you stay at Best Western properties even once in a while.
