Mileage Run: Amsterdam – Santiago de Chile Business Class with Aeromexico from €1,822

Santiago de Chile 1

SkyTeam airline Aeromexico is currently selling business class flights from Amsterdam to Santiago de Chile for only €1,822. While this isn’t the most direct way, and you can sometimes even find flights that are a bit cheaper (with Alitalia for instance), this flight is ideal for a mileage run. By flying over Mexico, you will enjoy many additional hours of business class luxury, and also get almost 40,000 redeemable miles (and almost 30,000 status miles) for Delta Skymiles, 132 XPs for Flying Blue, or even over 63,000 Aeromexico Club Premier miles. Either way, those amounts are enough to qualify for the SkyTeam Elite status.

The layovers are long, but so is the time spent enjoying business class.

The flight times are not ideal. Especially on the way back, you’ll have a very long layover, being in Mexico City from 5:05 until 23:25. You could, however, use this opportunity to explore the Mexican capital, and then relax a bit in the airport lounge between your long-haul flights.

Both flights are operated with Boeing 787-Dreamliners. You’ll be allowed to take 2 pieces of luggage on your trip, and enjoy all the other comforts of business class, such as lounge access and priority boarding.

Search & Book

The fare rules do not state until when this price will be available. The only thing they mention is that the trip length is limited to 12 months.

Sadly, Google Flights isn’t showing the prices on the calendar but only shows them if you select specific dates. You’ll have to try around. We found high availability from October onwards, except in December. Google Flights will redirect you to Expedia for prices of a bit over €2,000. If you use those dates in our Travel-Dealz flight search, however, you’ll save over €100.

Here’s the highlight of this deal. All flights are issued in booking class I. That means that for this roundtrip, you would get:

  • 41,090 Kilometers on China Eastern Eastern Miles
  • 39,280 Award Miles + 29,462 MQM on Delta SkyMiles
  • 29,460 Miles on Czech Airlines OK Plus
  • 29,460 Miles on GOL Aéreos Smiles
  • 29,460 Miles on Aerolineas Argentinas Plus
  • 29,460 Miles on Copa ConnectMiles
  • 29,460 Miles on Aeroflot Bonus
  • 29,460 Miles on MEA Cedar Miles
  • 25,532 Miles on Xiamen Airlines Egret Club
  • 24,550 Award Miles + 132 XP on FlyingBlue

  • 24,550 Miles on Air Europa Club

Data provided by Without guarantee on correctness.

As stated in the introduction, you would also get either 132 XPs for Flying Blue or 29,382 Delta status miles (MQMs). So with either Aeromexico Club Premier, SkyMiles, or Flying Blue, you would directly get the SkyTeam Elite status.

Aeromexico’s Business Class

Aeromexico’s Boeing 787 fleet Clase Premier offers you lie-flat-seats sorounded by covers to maximize privacy. The seat offers storage for small, personal items and is reclinable by touchscreen. You’ll find a more detailed look at the cabin in this review. Currently all flights in question are scheduled to be 787 aircraft. But as always, the airline is entitled to switch flight equipment without prior notice.

Information & Tips for Santiago de Chile

Santiago de Chile is the capital and most important economic center of Chile. With its 5.6 million inhabitants, the city is also a key cultural center which attracts numerous tourists thanks to its location near both the coast and the Andes Mountains.

From the Airport to the City Center

Two different airport busses, CentroPuerto and TurBus, run from the airport to the city. The fare is about 3€ per person and the journey takes about 30 to 50 minutes depending on traffic conditions. Credit cards are accepted when buying a ticket at the airport counter.

Unfortunately, none of the two buses take you directly into the city centre. The buses from CentroPuerto go to the “Los Héroes” station, from there you can walk to the central Plaza de Armas in about 20 minutes and a transfer to the metro is also possible quite easily. A taxi is a bit faster and costs approximately 20€.

Best Time to Travel

The best weather conditions for sightseeing and other touristic activities are in spring between September and November and in autumn between March and May. Temperatures during these months are moderate and rainfall is low.
