American Airlines Business Class Window Seat

You can currently fly to various US destinations, such as Dallas, San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, and some others, in American Airlines‘, Iberia‘s or British Airways‘ business class if you depart from Barcelona or Madrid. Prices start at only €1,528 if you purchase the flights on Iberia’s website.

Info

Iberia has some of the worst Covid-19 refund policies out there, as your way to a refund might require things like an actual Covid-19 infection.

You have to be fully vaccinated for at least 14 days to enter the United States, with an approved vaccine, unless you are a US resident/citizen. You can read more about the entry requirements at the CDC.

You can find these fares mostly in March 2023, with a few dates in February and April. The pre-selected March 7-14 dates bring results to almost all routes. You have to fly to the US between Tuesday and Thursday and have to fly back from Monday through Wednesday.

Most itineraries include American Airlines’ Boeing 777 for the transatlantic sector. Other tickets include Iberia’s A330 or British Airways’ Airbus A380 or Boeing 787.

Even if American Airlines doesn’t enjoy a good reputation for many, its business class is very good. Every seat has direct access to the aisle and the service, as well as the food and the seat, are at a very high standard. Travel-Dealz founder Johannes tested the Boeing 777 and really enjoyed the flight.

British Airways was the first airline to offer lie-flat seats – over 20 years ago. Sadly, many seats are still from that time and no longer reach today’s standards in other aspects. Especially in the Boeing 747, the seats were extremely narrow. Furthermore, it is unusual that every other seat is facing backward. If you, however, fly in a plane that has the new Club World seats installed, you’ll be flying in a much better product, sometimes even with Suite seats that offer a lot of privacy. A general downside at British Airways: there is no free seat reservation, which is unusual for a business class.

Iberia is one of the few airlines that has the same product across its entire long-haul fleet. A positive is that every seat has direct access to the aisle. The seats which are directly next to the window (in every 2nd row) offer especially high privacy. In total, it’s a very good product, as Travel-Dealz founder Johannes could witness on his short test flight on an A340.

While the fare rules do not state when this deal will expire, they mention that you must spend at least one Sunday in the USA before flying back. Furthermore, your outbound flight has to take place between Tuesday and Thursday, while you can only fly back from Monday through Wednesday. You should book your flights 180 days before departure.

Google Flights (instructions) displays all available dates. As mentioned before, the cheapest prices can only be found on Iberia’s website.

Information & Tips for USA

The USA offers many sights, natural wonders and cultural significance. Thanks to numerous airlines offering flights across the Atlantic, it is always pretty inexpensive to get there. Alternatively, you can also cross the Atlantic by boat.

Immigration, ESTA & Visa Requirements

The USA has one of the strictest entry regulations in the world. Most EU citizens, among others, are lucky to be able to participate in the so-called Visa Waiver Program. If you get an electronic entry permit (ESTA)  for approximately €20, you don’t need a visa for entry.

The Best Time to Visit

Due to its sheer size, the perfect time to visit the USA varies greatly from region to region. In winter, Florida is very popular due to the mild temperatures. In the summer the West and East Coasts are flooded by tourists which drives up the prices for hotels and flights and during the Indian Summer in late autumn New England is a very popular destination. The hurricane season between July and September can be dangerous in the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico. Florida and the southern states are regularly struck by these tropical storms. Blizzards occur from the East Coast to the Midwest during the winter months and regularly put air traffic and public life on hold.

Currency

The US dollar is widely used throughout the world and accepted as a currency in most tourist hotspots worldwide. That being said, carrying cash isn’t necessary in the US, all you need is a credit card! These are very common in the USA and are accepted pretty much everywhere without any issues. If you already have a credit card in your wallet, you should make sure that it does not charge a foreign currency fee if possible. Carrying a few dollars in cash doesn’t hurt though. You might need cash e.g. for the bus ticket if you want to buy it directly from the driver. Most of the time you even have to give exact change.
